Chapter 8: Yet Again Diagnosed as a Natural Gold-Digger Constitution
Chi Wang returned the husky to its owner, wrapping up the day’s part-time work.
The senior, seeing the dog panting heavily with its tongue hanging out, was thoroughly pleased and asked Chi Wang to come daily.
Chi Wang was delighted—another gig secured.
After an hour and a half of jogging, Chi Wang was drenched in sweat, feeling like a “sweaty emperor.” Back in the dorm, he took a shower. As he stripped, he noticed a bruise on his knee, dark purple and glaring. He couldn’t even remember when he had bumped it.
Post-shower, he soaked a towel in hot water and applied it as a warm compress.
After the routine first aid, he borrowed Luo Lianyun’s laptop for work.
Fortunately, both Luo Lianyun and Shu Tingyu were night owls, so he didn’t have to worry about the sound of typing disturbing them.
By the time Chi Wang finished his tasks, he had spent about five hours working, only to earn 100 yuan. The low cost-efficiency left him unimpressed.
Still, he couldn’t find better alternatives to fit into his rest schedule for now. He made a mental note to keep an eye out for replacements but resolved to make do for the moment.
—
A few days later, Chi Wang took leave from his other jobs to attend the golf caddie interview.
Knowing the venue was upscale, he wore his “new” outfit—the one he’d purchased for the mixer and hadn’t touched since. Though he associated the clothes with bad luck, he reasoned that his life was full of unfortunate moments anyway. He decided to give the outfit another chance—it had cost him over 500 yuan, after all.
After a few bus transfers, Chi Wang was feeling woozy. For all his stamina and energy, he had one glaring weakness: severe motion sickness. Even buses made him queasy, and the smell of car exhaust on the streets often left him nauseated.
This was the only truly unpleasant part of his work hustle; the rest, he could manage.
When he arrived at the interview location, the process was surprisingly quick. The interviewer only asked a few simple questions before approving him on the spot, the ease of it almost too good to be true.
Once hired, Chi Wang underwent a brief training session. His mentor, a seasoned caddie named Zhong Jin, walked him through the practicalities of the job. Chi Wang immediately started calling him “Master,” which made Zhong laugh and considerably softened his attitude toward Chi Wang.
Once on the field, Chi Wang began piecing together why caddie recruits were selected so effortlessly—all the hires were attractive. His mentor, Zhong Jin, was no exception, exuding a sunny charm alongside his good looks.
No wonder Chi Wang had been hired so quickly.
By the end of the day, Chi Wang had learned the ropes and finalized his work schedule—just two days on the weekends.
The job seemed perfect, and Zhong Jin generously shared tips and cautions, even some unspoken rules of the trade.
At this point, Zhong Jin’s usual sunny demeanor turned serious. He warned Chi Wang to stick strictly to his role and avoid unnecessary involvement with clients.
Chi Wang caught the implication and smiled in agreement.
Social climbing? If he had wanted to, he could have started back in high school when a little rich lady offered to keep him.
Now that he thought about it, he really did have a face that seemed to attract wealthy women. ‘Looks like my natural “gold-digger constitution’ is confirmed once again, he mused with self-deprecating humor.
With this new part-time job secured, Chi Wang’s mood lifted even further.
—
On his first official weekend shift, Chi Wang donned the uniform provided by the golf course. Glancing in the mirror, he thought he looked great and asked Zhong Jin to snap a photo.
He sent the picture to his dorm group chat.
Luo Lianyun: “Wow, looking sharp!”
Shu Tingyu: “Consensus achieved.jpg.”
Chi Wang: “Blushing face.jpg.”
Chi Wang: “Off to work now! Don’t mess up the dorm while I’m gone—keep it clean, and don’t leave trash lying around.”
Shu Tingyu: “OK, don’t worry. Have a good shift!”
Chi Wang: “I’ll bring drinks for you guys when I’m back!”
Shu Tingyu: “! Love you, babe! Mwah, mwah, mwah!”
Chi Wang: “Stop with that cringe-inducing stuff.jpg.”
—
Phones weren’t allowed during work hours, so Chi Wang locked his phone in the storage cabinet and followed Zhong Jin outside to meet the incoming guests.
On the way, Zhong Jin gave him a quick tip: “Be proactive. Guests get to pick their caddies, but caddies can also influence the guests. If you can hold onto a guest, it’ll never be a bad thing. Stay sharp.”
Chi Wang nodded gratefully. “Thank you, Master! Got it!”
Good people still exist in the world! Once I make money, I’ll treat Master to a meal!
—
At the golf course entrance, luxury cars were slowly rolling in. Several caddies had already gone ahead to greet the guests. Zhong Jin gave Chi Wang a nudge and whispered, “Choose the guest driving the Koenigsegg. He’s got a good temper. Hurry, before someone else gets to him.”
Chi Wang froze awkwardly. “Master, which one’s the Koenigsegg?”
Zhong Jin: “…The silver-gray one. The handsome guy with white hair. Move!”
Chi Wang dashed forward but was still a step too slow. A pretty female caddie had beaten him to it, grabbing the golf bag first.
Damn it. Chi Wang shifted his focus and approached another guest, this one also quite striking, and took his golf bag instead.
—
Xiao Chengfeng ignored the pretty female caddie who was throwing him flirtatious glances. Instead, he turned to Xiao Fu and said, “Brother, let’s make a bet. If I win, you hand over that piece of land in the west.”
Xiao Fu sneered coldly. “I came here to relax, not to take on extra tasks. Don’t push it.”
As the two walked toward the clubhouse, the caddies followed closely behind. Though the caddies were all attractive, people of their status had long been desensitized to good looks—handsome men and beautiful women were hardly novel.
Xiao Chengfeng complained, “Recently, Xie Siheng screwed me over, and my dad gave me a dressing down. He even reassigned one of my projects to Xiao Zhiyuan. I can’t afford to let him one-up me. Help me out here, Brother—you’re my real brother!”
Hearing the name “Xie Siheng,” Xiao Fu’s ears perked up. “What did you do to tick him off?”
Xiao Chengfeng whined, “Nothing much. It’s just that Lu Xiao’s been in love with him for ages, and I thought, since we grew up together, why not keep things within the family? So I gave him a little… push with some meds.”
Xiao Fu chuckled, “And? Did it work?”
Xiao Chengfeng replied, “Should’ve worked. That stuff was expensive, and I got it through my own channels. But somehow, it came back to bite me.”
Xiao Fu’s mood visibly improved. “Nicely done, but a bit amateurish. Didn’t take pictures? Capturing his embarrassing moments is where the real fun lies.”
Xiao Chengfeng looked horrified. “I wouldn’t dare.”
Xiao Fu, now in high spirits, relented. “Alright. If you win, the western land is yours. But business is business—I’m not giving you any discounts.”
Xiao Chengfeng grinned. “Deal! You’re the best, Brother.”
—
Chi Wang, walking behind them, couldn’t help feeling amazed. What are the odds? I ran into people who have a grudge against Xie Siheng!
Suddenly, Xiao Fu turned around and spoke to Chi Wang, “Go wait for me over there. Don’t touch my clubs. Got it?”
Chi Wang straightened up, smiled, and nodded. “Understood.”
Xiao Fu paused when he saw Chi Wang’s face. “Lift your head.”
Chi Wang hesitated but obediently raised his head to meet Xiao Fu’s gaze. His youthful features were sharp and defiant, his eyebrows carrying a hint of fierceness. A string of ear studs glinted against his ear, giving him an air that wasn’t easy to mess with.
Xiao Fu stared, momentarily stunned. He found the face vaguely familiar, and his tone softened unexpectedly. “You’re new here?”
Chi Wang answered steadily, “Yes, sir.”
Xiao Fu asked, “Do you know how to play golf?”
Chi Wang replied, “I’ve learned a little, but I’m not very good at it.”
Xiao Fu chuckled, his brows lifting in amusement. “Alright, watch me play later. I’ll teach you.”
Chi Wang was puzzled but maintained a professional smile. “If it’s not too much trouble for you, sir.”
Xiao Fu said simply, “It’s no trouble.”
He then reached out to take his own golf bag, a rare move for someone of his stature.
Turning to the pretty female caddie accompanying Xiao Chengfeng, he instructed, “Get another drink.” Then he asked Chi Wang, “What do you like? Can you drink cocktails?”
Chi Wang: …Why does this make me nervous?
Awkwardly, he replied, “Sir, I can’t drink alcohol. My tolerance is terrible. Orange juice would be fine.”
Xiao Fu nodded. “Of course. Did you hear that? Bring a glass of orange juice.”
The female caddie responded promptly but glanced enviously at Chi Wang.
Chi Wang: …I’m straight, but why do I feel like my gaydar is pinging?
Feeling uneasy, he was further unnerved when Xiao Fu struck up more casual conversation. “Are you still in school?”
Chi Wang replied honestly, “Yes, I’m a sophomore this year.”
Xiao Fu remarked, “A sophomore? So, you must be around 19 or 20? You look like a high schooler—seventeen, eighteen at most.”
Chi Wang dryly added a year to his age to match Xiao Fu’s guess, saying, “I’m 19 this year.”
This sort of situation hadn’t been covered in Zhong Jin’s training.
Still, Xiao Fu didn’t seem to mind Chi Wang’s stiffness and continued, “Give me your contact info.”
Chi Wang smoothly deflected, “Sir, my phone isn’t with me. Could you add me instead? I’ll accept your request as soon as I’m off work.”
Xiao Fu’s expression lightened with amusement, the fierce edge in his brows softening significantly. “Of course.” He paused briefly, then said, “No need to call me sir. My name’s Xiao Fu. You can call me Brother Fu, or just Xiao Fu.”
Chi Wang: …scratches head.jpg.
Reluctantly, he complied, “Brother Fu.”
—
Xiao Chengfeng, standing nearby, was stunned into silence. Just as he opened his mouth to comment, he decided against it. Instead, he snapped a discreet photo and sent it to their group chat:
Xiao Chengfeng: “Brother Fu has finally bloomed! He’s grilling this guy with questions like he’s ready to hand over his family registry. There’s definitely something going on here!”
The chat exploded.
“Wait, he’s into a caddie? Seriously?”
“Can’t blame him. The guy is really good-looking—and cute, too.”
“So Xiao Fu likes guys? Never saw that coming.”
Meanwhile, Zuo Qianxing, catching wind of the juicy gossip, immediately dragged Xie Siheng into the fray.
Zuo Qianxing: “Remember that guitarist from the bar? That’s him! And guess what—Xiao Fu’s into him!”
Xie Siheng: “?”
Zuo Qianxing: “Help, Xiao Fu actually likes men!”
Xie Siheng: “…”
Xie Siheng: “Where?”
Zuo Qianxing: “Where what?”
Xie Siheng: “Where’s Xiao Fu?”
Zuo Qianxing: “Oh, at the Milky Way Golf Club, the eastern branch. Why do you ask?”
Xie Siheng: “Get my clubs ready. We’re going to the club.”
Zuo Qianxing: “?”
Zuo Qianxing: “Bringing trouble all the way to his doorstep?”
Xie Siheng: “Scram.”
Xie Siheng: “Tomorrow.”
Zuo Qianxing: “Huh? Not today? Xiao Fu might not even be golfing tomorrow.”
Xie Siheng didn’t reply.
—
Meanwhile, Chi Wang remained on edge. As a caddie, he had been instructed by Xiao Fu to sit under the parasol and simply watch him play.
On the table nearby were a glass of orange juice and some exquisitely presented desserts.
Chi Wang was conflicted. Face reflects the heart, right? Xiao Fu’s features scream “trouble”—he’s got a bad temper for sure. If he offers to keep me and I refuse, will I get beaten up?
Though Chi Wang had some experience fighting, he doubted he could take Xiao Fu on. Xiao Fu was tall, broad-shouldered, and muscular, with biceps exposed under his sleeveless top. A single punch from him, Chi Wang reckoned, would flatten him.
Not to mention, rich people often acted without scruples. Considering Xiao Fu’s apparent ease with drugging people—like Xie Siheng—what if he decided to slip Chi Wang something too?
With that thought, Chi Wang didn’t dare touch the orange juice. He sat obediently, watching Xiao Fu and Xiao Chengfeng play golf.
Xiao Fu, clearly experienced, quickly sank a ball. Both caddies were busy attending to him and Xiao Chengfeng, while Chi Wang just sat there the entire time.
After finishing, Xiao Fu, pleased with his performance, generously handed out red envelopes containing 10,000 yuan to each caddie.
To Chi Wang, he gave double—two thick stacks of cash totaling 20,000 yuan.
Chi Wang was stunned. Though Zhong Jin had mentioned that top-earning caddies could make up to 300,000 yuan in tips, experiencing it firsthand was another matter entirely.
These rich folks really treated money like it was Monopoly cash.
It was a busy weekend, with over 15 caddies on duty. Xiao Fu had just handed out 160,000 yuan like it was nothing!
Even Xiao Chengfeng, despite losing, had sunk a few balls. He gave each caddie 3,000 yuan and rounded up Chi Wang’s tip to a neat 10,000.
Chi Wang: …
His eyes widened into saucers. I’m rich!
Once again, it confirmed the legendary ‘Natural Gold-Digger Constitution’ theory!
But seriously, this just isn’t okay.
i’d imagine someone would beat their brother up when they find out that the boy they creeping on is preggos with xie siheng’s baby lol
Not him hyping himself having a ‘National Gold-Digger Constitution’ ?
