Chapter 30: Congratulations, You Won the Lottery!
Chi Wang felt the muscles under his palm. Even without looking, he knew they were much more defined than his own. “A six-pack? I thought you’d have an eight-pack.”
Xie Sichen kept a straight face as he clarified, “I had it in high school.”
Chi Wang asked, “So why not now?”
Xie replied, “…I’ll get them back.”
Chi Wang chuckled. “I have a six-pack myself. What a waste of that big frame of yours.”
As he spoke, he instinctively wanted to show off his own abs but then remembered that his abdominal muscles had become increasingly indistinct. Suddenly, he didn’t feel like talking.
He also remembered that he was carrying Xie Sichen’s child. Silently, he moved back a bit, lowered the leg he’d draped over Xie, and even turned over to face away from him. “…It’s getting late. Let’s sleep.”
Xie said, “…Alright.”
He pulled up the quilt, turned slightly to look at Chi Wang, but could only see the back of his head. He reached out, turned off the nightlight, and closed his eyes.
With his eyes closed, his other senses became more acute. He could smell the scent on Chi Wang, mixed with the faint fragrance of lime shower gel, but more so the natural warmth emanating from his body.
The tension that had gripped Xie Sichen for so long gradually eased.
He recalled reading in a magazine about people whose bodies emit several times more negative ions than normal. Being near them or hugging them makes others feel comfortable, alleviating insomnia, irritability, and headaches.
Chi Wang… was probably such a person.
A cloud of darkness swirled in Xie’s mind as drowsiness slowly overtook him, and before long, he sank into sleep.
But his sleep wasn’t very deep. He sensed Chi Wang’s calf trembling and was lightly kicked, which woke him up.
He turned on the nightlight, lifted the quilt, and gently raised one of Chi Wang’s legs, placing it in his lap to massage his calf.
A muscle cramp should be quite painful, but when Xie looked down at Chi Wang’s face, he showed no reaction—not even a frown. His breathing was steady; he was sleeping deeply.
Xie frowned slightly. Being insensitive to pain wasn’t a good thing.
He massaged the cramped muscle back into place, kneaded Chi Wang’s calf, then placed his leg back under the covers, turned off the nightlight, and lay back down.
Even though he’d woken up, he found it wasn’t difficult to fall back asleep.
That night, Chi Wang didn’t have any more cramps.
The next morning, Chi Wang woke up groggily. He turned over and felt a wall in front of him. Instinctively, he reached out to touch it. As his memory returned, he suddenly became fully awake.
Chi Wang’s expression became odd as he remembered the physiological reaction that men have in the morning.
Xie Sichen opened his eyes to see Chi Wang’s handsome face up close. Chi Wang smiled at him and said, “You’re awake? Congratulations, the vasectomy was a success.”
Xie: “?”
Chi Wang’s white canine teeth gleamed, giving him a sly and radiant look. “Just kidding. Did I scare you?”
“…” Xie’s voice was somewhat hoarse. “No.”
He sat up and looked toward the window. Morning light poured into the bedroom through the large windows. It was dawn.
He had actually slept through the night until morning.
Xie Sichen’s dark eyes shone as he looked at Chi Wang.
Chi Wang had already gotten out of bed. Facing the window, he stretched lazily, swaying side to side to loosen up, then lifted his leg to press against the wall, stretching his muscles. Performing such difficult movements without discomfort showed he did this often.
After stretching, he turned around and saw Xie still sitting on the bed. He smiled knowingly and said, “I’m going to wash up.”
He went to the bathroom, and the sound of running water came through the door. Xie got out of bed and, without lingering, left Chi Wang’s bedroom.

After Chi Wang moved out, Luo Lianyun and Shu Tingyu found everything a bit off, and the dorm gradually became messy.
They couldn’t help it; neither of them were particularly tidy guys. Thanks to Chi Wang’s daily supervision, they had managed to develop good habits.
But people are like that; without supervision, laziness crept back in, and they returned to their old ways.
They had no classes in the morning, but Luo still got up early. He was about to play some games when a friend request popped up on his phone.
Luo was stunned for a moment. When he opened it, he saw that the request was from Xie Sichen.
Why was Xie adding him?
Luo felt a bit intimidated by Xie. In photos, he looked fine—just handsome—but in person, he exuded a sense of pressure that was hard to bear. Moreover, his face was always expressionless, making him seem difficult to get along with.
When he had previously given Xie a hard time in the dorm, it had taken a lot of courage, but he didn’t regret it.
Luo held his phone and thought for a long time but eventually accepted the friend request.
He politely sent a message: “May I help you with something?”
Xie quickly replied, “Is there anything Chi Wang likes?”
Luo blinked. Oh, so he’s asking for help—wants to give Chi Wang a gift?
Should he take advantage of this?
Xie’s family background wasn’t a secret; he was quite wealthy. Chi Wang wouldn’t think like this, but Luo was more pragmatic. Since Xie was responsible for this child and wanted to give gifts, they might as well make him spend; otherwise, he’d be getting off too easily.
After thinking it over, Luo replied, “Chi Wang likes listening to music. If you want to give him a gift, you could get him a big Sony headphone. He’d definitely like it.”
A Sony headphone costs about 1,800 yuan. He had seen it in Chi Wang’s shopping cart, but he hadn’t bought it yet.
Xie: “Anything else?”
Luo was surprised. Had he not checked the price? That’s Sony we’re talking about.
Seems like he has the means.
Luo said, “Recently, in that movie ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ the protagonist uses a Sony camera. Even though Chi Wang doesn’t do photography, you could get him a Sony A9 Mark III; he’d definitely like it.”
Saying this, Luo hesitated a bit. Was he being too greedy? After all, it cost tens of thousands.
But thinking of the car Xie drove to pick up Chi Wang, he felt justified. If he didn’t take advantage now, when would he?
Luo continued, “Also, running shoes. He runs every day and exercises a lot, but his shoes always chafe. His heels often get rubbed raw and bleed, and his toes bleed too. He doesn’t feel the pain at the time; it’s only when he takes off his shoes at night that he finds his socks covered in blood.”
“Oh, and you should keep some medicine for external injuries at home. He gets hurt often and isn’t sensitive to pain; he doesn’t realize he’s injured until he takes a shower at home. Since you have the means, you might want to pad door frames and table corners; he always bumps into them. I suspect there’s something wrong with his coordination—his limbs and vision don’t align well.”
Luo rambled on and on. After finishing, he looked at the chat filled with his messages and felt a bit embarrassed.
Was Xie speechless?
He asked, “Are you there?”
Only then did Xie reply, “Thank you.”
Luo sighed in relief. “It’s nothing.”
Close to noon, someone knocked on the dorm door. Luo was in the bathroom, so Shu answered it. Seeing a stranger, he was momentarily stunned. Before he could speak, the person said, “These are your deliveries.”
Shu was shocked. “Do couriers deliver to the door now?”
The man smiled sincerely. “No, I’m from a same-city errand service.”
Shu said, “Oh.”
He took the two rather large boxes handed to him, not knowing what they were.
After closing the door, Shu walked to the bathroom door and asked Luo, “What did you buy? Need me to help you open it?”
Luo replied through the door, “I didn’t buy anything. You can open it; maybe it’s empty.”
Shu said, “Can’t be. It’s same-city delivery.”
He got scissors and opened the packages in the hallway.
Inside was a black box with photos and logos that made Shu gasp. No way—it couldn’t be what he thought.
He opened the box, revealing a camera inside. Shu exclaimed, “Damn! Luo Lianyun! You bought a camera??”
Luo said, “Huh?”
He opened the door and saw that Shu had opened both boxes; inside were two cameras. The compact models were clearly Sony A9 Mark III.
“What the heck? Did Xie send us each one too? Is he that rich?” Luo was astonished by Xie’s generosity.
Shu’s eyes widened. “What? You say Xie sent these? Why would he send us these out of the blue?”
Luo then told him about Xie contacting him.
Shu said angrily, “He wants to ingratiate himself with us, and you—you’re selling Chi Wang’s privacy. We can’t accept his things. He wants to corrupt us with capitalist methods; no way.”
He was against Xie using such tactics to win people over. If he wanted to give gifts, simple ones would do; sending such expensive ones showed ill intentions.
Luo said, “Come on, even if we don’t accept them, we shouldn’t return them. Selling these cameras and saving the money for Chi Wang is better than returning them. Chi Wang won’t have anything to do with him in the future. Since he’s going to have this baby, he deserves some compensation. Chi Wang probably doesn’t think this way, but we should plan for him, don’t you think?”
Shu’s mood softened slightly. “…Yeah.”
In the afternoon, when Chi Wang came to class, Luo tried to find out indirectly and learned that Xie hadn’t given him any gifts yet. Luo was puzzled—he hadn’t given the main person a gift but sent them to the two of them first. What did that mean?
The minds of the rich can be hard to understand sometimes.
Chi Wang didn’t know what Luo was thinking; he was contemplating taking on more part-time work.
Currently, he was only doing two jobs at most. He hadn’t finished learning Go yet; he had a fixed half-hour to an hour of lessons each day. He had two or three hours of free time; what could he do?
Maybe he could learn video editing. Short videos were popular now. He couldn’t be a streamer, but learning editing shouldn’t be a problem.
With a plan in mind, his mood improved significantly.
Back at Xie’s house, Chi Wang interacted with Xiaomi the dog for a bit, then opened his computer to start his work.
However, when he turned on his phone, he saw that Sister Yang had sent him a message in the afternoon. His heart sank, fearing it was to increase his workload.
Bracing himself, he opened the chat and found that it wasn’t that—in fact, it was good news.
Sister Yang: “Xiao Chi, our company is expanding, so we’re giving you a raise! Are you happy? You can guess how much your salary will increase.”
Chi Wang sent a weary emoji.
In the past, he might have dreamed of a salary increase of over a thousand, but now, familiar with capitalist tricks, he calmly replied, “Could it be 200?”
Sister Yang: “You can guess more boldly.”
Chi Wang: “Three hundred?”
Sister Yang: “You’re too conservative. I told you to be bold. Congratulations! Your work attitude has been outstanding, so next quarter, your salary will be increased to 8,800 yuan. Also, today our company had a lottery draw. Your account was automatically entered, and you were very lucky to win second prize—a brand-new electric scooter and a Sony headphone! Congratulations, congratulations!!”
Chi Wang’s eyes widened. What? His luck had turned around!?
His fingers started to tremble. “Really? Sister Yang, you’re not kidding me, right?”
Sister Yang: “As real as gold. Give me your address, and the company will send you the prizes.”
Chi Wang asked, “What was the first prize?”
Sister Yang hesitated and asked a colleague, “What should we say the first prize is?”
The colleague said, “Tell him it’s an Audi sedan, around 250,000 yuan.”
Sister Yang continued typing: “The first prize is a 250,000 yuan Audi sedan. You’re already very lucky!”
Chi Wang rushed out of Xie’s house, ran to the China Sports Lottery across from the school, and bought several lottery tickets.
He, who was usually unlucky, suddenly had good fortune. It meant his luck had peaked; it would be a pity not to buy lottery tickets!
As for whether this was superstitious… Well, sometimes you have to be flexible! People need to adapt!
