Chapter 10: Bright Eyes Like Poached Eggs
Chi Wang didn’t really want to exchange contacts; instinct told him to avoid entanglements with Xie Sicheng.
Likewise, Xie Sicheng seemed similarly disinterested.
Still, Chi Wang wasn’t about to decline outright. Instead, he smiled politely and asked, “Would it be convenient for you, Senior?”
Switching to “Senior” wasn’t about cozying up; Zuo Qianxing’s shift in tone had naturally prompted the change.
As he spoke, Chi Wang’s demeanor was calm and confident, as if he had already forgotten their previous encounter or simply wasn’t affected by it.
Xie Sicheng mirrored Chi Wang’s composure, replying coolly, “Sure.”
He unlocked his phone and handed it to Chi Wang, one hand holding it out.
Chi Wang’s eyes landed first on Xie Sicheng’s wallpaper—a piece of calligraphy featuring Buddhist scripture.
Oh wow, Chi Wang thought, a true Buddhist in the Beijing elite circle?
He didn’t know where WeChat was on the phone and fumbled a bit, scrolling through the minimal apps. The lack of content, especially the near-empty chat history, made Chi Wang feel like he was unintentionally intruding on Xie Sicheng’s privacy.
Awkward, he tried to avoid looking too closely and hurriedly entered his own WeChat ID. Once done, he handed the phone back.
Xie Sicheng took it without a word, his expression as frosty as ever.
Chi Wang faked a cheerful smile. “I’ll accept your friend request after my shift, Senior. If there’s anything I can help with, just let me know on WeChat.”
Zuo Qianxing grinned. “That’s the spirit! Fellow townsfolk meeting far from home—it’s only natural to connect!”
Chi Wang forced a laugh. “Haha, exactly.”
Turning his attention back to work, Chi Wang guided Zuo Qianxing and Xie Sicheng to the golf course, performing his duties as a caddie with precision.
Today, Chi Wang was assigned to both Zuo Qianxing and Xie Sicheng.
Xie Sicheng, dressed in a crisp white casual outfit, exuded an aura of elegance. His exposed skin gleamed like polished jade under the sunlight, delicate and radiant.
His striking features were almost surreal—his deep, sculpted features were perfectly balanced, every line harmonious. Even his jawline was flawless, adding an unapproachable air of sophistication.
While the golf course boasted many good-looking men, Xie Sicheng still stood out.
Chi Wang recalled meeting Xiao Fu the day before; while Xiao Fu was undeniably handsome, his aura carried hints of ruthlessness and audacity, which diminished his appeal compared to Xie Sicheng.
Our H University’s campus idol truly lives up to his reputation, Chi Wang thought.
Not to mention, Xie Sicheng’s extraordinarily pale complexion set him apart even more.
With a refreshed sense of professionalism, Chi Wang carefully guided their game, retrieving balls and providing assistance when needed.
Through training and observation, he’d learned to judge players’ skills. It was evident Xie Sicheng was exceptional—his every move precise and calculated.
In contrast, Zuo Qianxing frequently lost balls, incurring penalties. He even sneakily tested the sand trap with his club, bending the rules.
Unsurprisingly, Xie Sicheng emerged victorious, finishing the final hole with a flawless shot.
Zuo Qianxing whistled in admiration. “Damn, you’re good! You should’ve come yesterday and shown Xiao Fu who’s the real golf king!”
Xie Sicheng ignored him.
Chi Wang’s ears perked up. His suspicion about bad blood between Xie Sicheng and Xiao Fu seemed confirmed.
Hehe, this could be interesting.
Having overheard Xiao Fu’s conversations the previous day, Chi Wang had already deduced the tension between the two. So earlier, when chatting with Zuo Qianxing, he’d deliberately praised Xiao Fu to stoke the fire.
Would Xie Sicheng give out red envelopes too?
Chi Wang’s fingers metaphorically twitched with anticipation as he tried to keep his excitement hidden.
Xie Sicheng indeed planned to distribute red envelopes. Speaking quietly to Zuo Qianxing, he prompted the latter to shout, “Hey, handsome, come here! Time for your red envelope!”
Chi Wang maintained a professional demeanor as he approached, though his eyes gleamed with restrained delight.
Zuo Qianxing pulled out a card, beaming. “Go cash out 200,000 yuan. Take 50,000 for yourself and split the rest among the other caddies.”
Chi Wang: “!!”
What?!
His shock rendered him momentarily speechless, but Zuo Qianxing waved off his hesitation. “C’mon, Xiao Fu gave you 20,000 yesterday. We’re going 2.5 times better—overtake and flex!”
Chi Wang: “…”
Unable to suppress his grin, Chi Wang accepted the card. “Thank you, sir!”
He headed to the manager’s office to process the payment.
Large sums like this had to go through the club’s official channels unless the patrons handed out cash directly.
The manager, seeing Chi Wang delivering such a hefty tip, treated him with newfound warmth. Soon enough, 50,000 yuan landed in Chi Wang’s account.
The joy on Chi Wang’s face was unmistakable; his cheeks flushed, and his eyes sparkled like water droplets. He practically had bright, shiny poached eggs for eyes.
Fifty thousand!
I’ll compete with you rich folks any day! (False.)
Sir, if you don’t mind, I’d like to call you Dad! (True.)
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Chi Wang’s attitude toward Xie Sicheng softened considerably. “Senior, would you like a drink? We have all kinds available. Or perhaps you’d like to rest? We’ve got a lounge where you can nap before playing more. How about it?”
Xie Sicheng glanced down at Chi Wang’s radiant smile. His tone was calm, with an imperceptible restraint. “No need, we’re leaving.”
He shot a look at Zuo Qianxing, who immediately exclaimed, “Oh right, we’re heading out! See that? We’re way more generous than Xiao Fu. Don’t let Xiao Fu fool you!”
Chi Wang: Hehe.
Putting on a serious face, Chi Wang said earnestly, “Rest assured, I am a dedicated caddie of the Milky Way Club. I strictly adhere to the club’s rules and would never do anything to tarnish its reputation!”
The club manager, passing by, overheard this and softened his gaze toward Chi Wang. This new recruit not only charmed major clients but also spoke highly of the club—definitely someone worth nurturing!
Zuo Qianxing and Xie Sicheng left, walking toward their car.
On the way, Zuo Qianxing casually remarked, “That kid’s interesting. No wonder Xiao Fu sees something in him.”
Despite his seemingly casual demeanor, Zuo Qianxing was much more astute than he appeared.
Just like a dorm room of four with five separate group chats, Zuo Qianxing’s public camaraderie with Xiao Fu didn’t reflect his actual allegiance. Privately, he sided with Xie Sicheng. Naturally, he had to ensure Chi Wang didn’t fall into Xiao Fu’s clutches.
Xie Sicheng likely shared the same intention. Zuo Qianxing appreciated this about Xie Sicheng; while his words could be harsh, his actions were kind. It was precisely this dynamic that made their relationship so solid.
Another day of saving innocent youths with Xie Sicheng.
Xie Sicheng, however, made no comment on Zuo Qianxing’s words. As they climbed into the car, he turned to glance back.
In the distance, Chi Wang stood, waving them off, his smile bright and radiant as the sun. He practically glowed, exuding youthful vitality and warmth.
He smiles like a child, Xie Sicheng thought.
…A little cute, actually.

Other caddies also received substantial tips that day, thanks to Chi Wang’s clients. While the truth behind the large sums was no secret, most were genuinely grateful for the shared windfall.
Of course, some pried into how much Chi Wang himself had received. But with the club processing the transactions, only the manager knew, and Chi Wang wasn’t about to advertise it.
Despite the initial thrill of receiving such a windfall, Chi Wang quickly found himself uneasy.
That’s just how it is for people who’ve been poor for too long, he mused.
After pondering all afternoon, he came to a decision. The money shouldn’t weigh on his conscience.
Without hesitation, he took out his phone and donated 10,000 yuan to a charity providing meals for children in remote areas.
Even after the donation, he still had 40,000 yuan left.
With his mind now at ease, Chi Wang felt a sense of clarity and relief.
After finishing his shift, Chi Wang met with Kong Tianxi and presented him with the new guitar.
Kong Tianxi was floored. He opened the case to find a high-end Yamaha model, instantly recognizing its quality. “…You actually bought this for me?”
Chi Wang grinned, his tiger tooth gleaming. “Of course. You thought I was bluffing? I keep my promises.”
Kong Tianxi felt a lump in his throat, unexpectedly moved.
Since stepping into society, he’d grown accustomed to shallow relationships—flattery when things were good, betrayal when things went bad. Broken promises and forgotten friendships were the norm.
Initially, he hadn’t thought much of Chi Wang’s casual assurances. Frankly, even when he’d helped Chi Wang find work, it wasn’t purely out of goodwill—there was some lingering spite from their previous altercation. If Chi Wang had a rough time as a caddie, it’d be a small, satisfying bit of revenge.
But this gesture—this selfless and genuine act—left him stunned.
A grown man on the verge of tears, Kong Tianxi asked, “You give me such an expensive guitar… What are we now?”
“Friends, of course! What else?” Chi Wang replied, puzzled. “Do we even need to say it? I thought we had an understanding.”
Kong Tianxi: “…”
From now on, Chi Wang is my best bro.
In his heart, Kong Tianxi acknowledged Chi Wang as a true brother, though he couldn’t quite bring himself to say it out loud.
Chi Wang patted him on the shoulder and, ever the salesman, said, “If I make it big one day, I won’t forget you. When I prosper, so will you. One person’s success is all our success—that’s our motto!”
Kong Tianxi nodded fervently. “Got it! You’re amazing, bro. I’ll count on you from now on!”
Chi Wang grinned and gave him a reassuring slap on the back. “Leave it to me! None of my bros ever end up struggling. I even got my high school buddy—total slacker—into a top-tier university.”
Kong Tianxi: “I believe you!”
Chi Wang’s actions spoke louder than words. He’d been scrappy and resourceful, yet he still honored his commitments. To Kong Tianxi, that made him worthy of respect—real big bro material.
This guy… I’ll follow him anywhere.
After delivering the guitar, Chi Wang rushed off to his tutoring job.
Because no matter how much money he earned, he remained steadfast. Work came first!
I’m seriously starting to develop a fond obsession to Chi Wang! How could he be so perfect!? Kind, Diligent, Responsible, Hardworking, Neat, Generous, Smart, Sincere, I could recite all the adjective I know but in short he is just PERFECT!???
