Chapter 41: Couple’s Watches
Xu Huazhang got it—it was all about luck.
And he believed he was lucky. Since you couldn’t tell what was inside a blind box from the outside, he picked one at random.
“Baby, let’s go with this one.”
Mu Lantu scanned the code and paid.
The blind box dropped into the pickup slot.
Xu Huazhang opened the box, and when Mu Lantu saw what was inside, he turned around and burst out laughing.
“Hahaha!”
Xu Huazhang stared at the 5-yuan pack of tissues inside.
“Baby, this is totally your fault. So you have a jinxed mouth.”
Mu Lantu wasn’t having it. He turned back around. “My fault? You’re the one with bad luck.”
Ge Tao and Zhou Ye craned their necks to sneak a look, their gazes flicking between the two as they tried hard to suppress their laughter.
Xu Huazhang said seriously, “No way. I’ve always had great luck—otherwise, how could I have found such an amazing boyfriend like you?”
Mu Lantu grinned from ear to ear, but still argued, “Well, I’ve got great luck too. How about you try again?”
Xu Huazhang took the phone. “This time I’ll scan it myself.”
Mu Lantu folded his arms and watched coldly.
Xu Huazhang carefully picked another box and scanned the code. Then he handed the phone back for Mu Lantu to enter the password.
Mu Lantu refused to get involved. “You do it. It’s 98…”
The blind box dropped.
Xu Huazhang picked it up and opened it himself—then immediately slammed it shut.
“This is just a money-grabbing scam.”
Zhou Ye and Ge Tao looked expectantly at Mu Lantu.
Mu Lantu snatched the box and peeked inside—nearly doubling over with laughter.
“Hahaha…”
It was a pen. A signature pen. At most worth 2 yuan.
“Dummy, it’s your money being wasted and you’re still laughing.”
Xu Huazhang tossed the pen to Zhou Ye and Ge Tao, then suddenly grabbed Mu Lantu from behind just as he tried to run off. He dragged him back in front of the blind box machine and began scanning every box on the top-left row.
“I’m buying them all. If this thing keeps mocking me, I’ll sue them into bankruptcy.”
Mu Lantu was laughing so hard he had no strength left. He leaned against Xu Huazhang, hair brushing against his neck. His neck didn’t feel ticklish, but Xu Huazhang’s heart sure did. He couldn’t help but rub his chin gently against Mu Lantu’s ear.
Clunk.
A third box dropped.
Somehow, a small crowd had gathered to watch the show.
Xu Huazhang opened the box and raised an eyebrow.
Mu Lantu leaned in. It was a pair of Shine-brand sunglasses—retail value: 899 yuan.
Xu Huazhang put them on him. They fit perfectly.
“Baby, how’s that for luck?”
Mu Lantu took them off and hung them from his shirt collar, then went to scan one himself. When he opened the box, he raised an eyebrow, smiled, and handed the item to Xu Huazhang with a dramatic flourish like handing over a black card.
“Here—spend away!”
It was cash.
Xu Huazhang stared in surprise and counted it. Exactly 666 yuan: six 100-yuan notes, six 10s, and six 1s—all crisp and brand-new.
The crowd gasped.

Several people rushed over to the machine and began frantically scanning codes.
Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang took the opportunity to slip away.
On the third floor, Mu Lantu bought Xu Huazhang a wallet—perfect for storing all that cash.
The watch store was on the sixth floor.
Mu Lantu assumed Xu Huazhang was planning to buy a watch for himself, so he focused on picking a style that would suit him. However, the savvy store clerk had noticed right away that Mu Lantu’s wrist was bare—and also didn’t miss that the two were holding hands when they walked in. So all her recommendations to Xu Huazhang were for couple’s watches.
Xu Huazhang called out sweetly to the oblivious Mu Lantu, “Baby, come here.”
Mu Lantu walked over. “Already picked one?”
“See if you like this.” Xu Huazhang slid a box containing a pair of watches in front of him.
Mu Lantu finally caught on and glanced at his own wrist. He did have watches—two, in fact—for formal occasions. But he rarely wore them since he found it inconvenient. He preferred checking the time on his phone.
The store clerk still wore a perfect sales smile as she repeated her earlier pitch:
“This gentleman has excellent taste. This pair of elegant sports couple’s watches from Chindale Fei was specially designed for same-sex couples by renowned designer Chris. Stainless steel band, automatic mechanical movement, natural sapphire crystal, and a subtle motif on the back—one star and one moon, symbolizing eternal companionship. Priced at only 2,580,000 yuan.”
Mu Lantu admired the sleek, understated design, but thought it was too extravagant for a gift. Paying separately for a couple’s set felt unlucky too.
Xu Huazhang saw the look in his eyes. “Baby, shall we go with these? I think they suit us really well.”
Mu Lantu thought for a moment, then nodded. “If you like them, let’s get them. But next time I’m buying you a house, and you’re not allowed to say no.”
Zhou Ye and Ge Tao’s pupils practically shook. No wonder he’s the boss. No wonder he’s Mr. Mu. Even his gift-giving is on another level!
The two saleswomen internally turned green with envy. Ughhh, where did this power couple come from? One gives luxury watches, the other gives real estate. Just casually raising everyone’s standards for dating…
Xu Huazhang pulled out a card and handed it to the clerk, then personally helped Mu Lantu put the watch on.
They both happened to be wearing sporty outfits today, so the watches looked just right on them.

One wore it on his left wrist, the other on his right. Standing side by side with their hands at their sides, they didn’t even need to be holding hands—it was obvious to anyone with eyes that they were wearing matching couple’s watches.
