Chapter 26: The Revenge Operation
The gratitude shown by Gu Jincheng’s parents was sincere. The dishes they ordered were all top-tier delicacies: Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, Pearl King Crab, Four Treasures Shark Fin, Abalone with Oyster Sauce, Sea Cucumber in Abalone Sauce with Pan-Seared Foie Gras, Cordyceps Lion’s Head Meatballs, and Regal Lobster…
Afraid that Mu Lantu might feel uncomfortable, they arranged for Gu Jincheng to sit beside him and serve food for him.
During the meal, they asked Mu Lantu if he had trained in some way to be able to react so quickly and catch the flowerpot.
Mu Lantu gave a vague explanation: “I did train a little, just mimicking moves from TV dramas. I kept at it for a long time, and surprisingly, it worked out a bit.”
Gu Yingwu and Huang Xiumin didn’t doubt it at all. Their son Gu Jincheng had also mimicked martial arts moves from TV dramas when he was younger, and even broke a TV once while swinging a makeshift weapon.
Gu Yingwu then asked about Mu Lantu’s work.
“Xiao Mu, you and Jincheng both graduated this year. Have you found a job yet? If not, your aunt and I can help introduce you to one. Don’t feel embarrassed — honestly, even Jincheng’s job was found through our connections.”
Huang Xiumin chimed in sincerely, “Exactly. That’s just how society is these days — everything runs on connections. If you have them and don’t use them, you’re just being foolish.”
Gu Jincheng made exaggerated winks at Mu Lantu, hinting that he should quickly agree.
There were only four people in the private room, so naturally Gu Yingwu and Huang Xiumin noticed. They smiled indulgently. The couple had already discussed this at home: offering a job was the least they could do for someone who had saved their son’s life. A dinner alone wasn’t enough, but adding a stable job would more or less even the score. And if Mu Lantu did well, maybe he could even settle down in the capital long-term.
“I really appreciate your kindness, Uncle and Aunt,” Mu Lantu replied. “But I already have a job.”
Gu Jincheng quickly asked, “You do? What kind of job?”
Mu Lantu told them he was a livestreamer.
Gu Yingwu and Huang Xiumin exchanged a glance, and their fondness for him lessened slightly. They had a rough idea of what livestreaming was and didn’t consider it a “real” profession.
Only Gu Jincheng seemed excited.
“Mu Lantu, you’re a streamer? What kind of content? On which platform? Tell me — I’ll support you!”
Mu Lantu replied that he streamed himself building LEGO sets.
Gu Yingwu and Huang Xiumin looked baffled. Building LEGO? That could be livestreamed? People actually watched that?
They exchanged another glance.
Gu Yingwu said, “Our family actually owns an entertainment company. If you’re interested in joining the entertainment industry, I can connect you with the right people.”
Huang Xiumin nodded with a smile. “You’re very handsome and refined — honestly, better than many celebrities. If you enter the entertainment world, I’m sure you could go far.”
Mu Lantu could tell that Gu Yingwu was determined to repay the favor tonight. After a moment of thought, he said, “Uncle, Aunt, I don’t have any plans to enter the entertainment industry. However, there is one thing I could use your help with.”
Huang Xiumin immediately perked up. “Just say the word. As long as it’s something we can do, we’ll help.”
Mu Lantu got straight to the point. “I want information on a company called Rumu Entertainment — as much as possible.”
Gu Jincheng turned his head sharply. Rumu Entertainment? Isn’t that Meng Jiaqin’s family’s company?
Gu Yingwu saw this and guessed his son probably knew something about the situation. He decided to ask privately later, but for now, he responded readily: “No problem. I’ll have someone gather the info and get it to you as soon as possible. If you ever want to know more about Rumu Entertainment, whatever I know, I’ll make sure you’re informed right away.”
This was an unexpected gift for Mu Lantu. He poured a glass of wine and raised it. “Thank you, Uncle Gu.”
“You’re welcome,” Gu Yingwu said, raising his glass as well.
Both men understood — the favor had now been repaid. Whether Gu Jincheng and Mu Lantu remained in contact after this would be up to the two young men themselves.
The dinner left both sides satisfied.
After the meal, Gu Yingwu and Huang Xiumin left first and waited outside for Gu Jincheng.
Gu Jincheng held Mu Lantu back, pestering him with questions about his livestreaming.
Mu Lantu had no choice but to give him the platform and his username.
As soon as he got in the car, Gu Jincheng downloaded the app and found Mu Lantu’s stream.
From the driver’s seat, Gu Yingwu turned around. “Jincheng, does your classmate have some beef with Rumu Entertainment?”
Gu Jincheng put down his phone and frowned in disgust. “Dad, if you really have info on Rumu, send everything you have to Mu Lantu. Meng Xinda has a daughter named Meng Jiaqin. You and Mom should know her, right?”
Gu Yingwu rolled his eyes. “Nope.”
Huang Xiumin replied, “Yes, her name’s Meng Jiaqin, isn’t it?”
Gu Jincheng looked disdainful. “Meng Jiaqin acts like she’s some sugar mama now. Back in our freshman year, she tried to seduce Mu Lantu. When he rejected her, she kept picking on him. At our graduation party, she even ganged up with others to force him to drink. Luckily, he has a strong tolerance — otherwise, something bad could’ve happened. I bet he’s trying to get revenge on Meng Jiaqin.”
Huang Xiumin frowned so hard it looked like she could kill a fly between her brows. “I’ve seen that girl. Looks all prim and proper, but turns out she’s learning nothing but shady tricks.”
Gu Yingwu’s focus was elsewhere. “The Meng family’s done pretty well for themselves. Their company’s worth a billion or so. Mu Lantu is just a regular person — trying to go against them is like throwing eggs at a rock.”
Gu Jincheng was quiet for a moment. “He’s not the kind of person who acts without a plan. Just give him everything you know.”
Gu Yingwu nodded and started the car. “Alright. If he really has what it takes to bring down Rumu, maybe our family can even swoop in and pick up the leftovers.”
Of course, he was just trying to comfort his son.
Little did he know — one day in the future, Mu Lantu would single-handedly destroy Rumu Entertainment.
