God-Tier Get Rich System – CH147

Mutated Humans

Chapter 147: Mutated Humans

Their choice was wise—the goods here had far better value for money than those in the Infinite University supermarket.

Mu Lantu always believed that pretending to be a native was the safest. Though he shopped, his pace was neither rushed nor slow.

Passing players didn’t spare him or Xu Huazhang a single glance.

But a slower pace didn’t mean inefficiency. Both of them knew exactly what they needed. Heading straight for their targets, they finished everything in under ten minutes.

“Ah—!”

A scream shattered the supermarket’s calm.

Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang immediately pushed their cart toward the checkout.

Only one cashier remained at her post, while the others had run toward the source of the noise.

“Huazhang, you pay. I’ll go check.”

Though worried, Xu Huazhang could only agree—he couldn’t keep Mu Lantu tied to his side at all times.

“Be careful.”

“I know!”

Before the words even landed, Mu Lantu darted into the aisles.

Xu Huazhang waited patiently while the cashier scanned their items, eyes fixed on the direction Mu Lantu had gone.

Passing through the kitchenware aisle, Mu Lantu casually picked up a kitchen knife.

A woman in her forties was writhing in pain on the ground. A crowd had gathered, wanting to approach but finding no chance.

“Ma’am, are you alright? Ma’am!”

Suddenly, the onlookers screamed and backed away.

On the skin exposed outside the woman’s bikini—her face, neck, arms, and thighs—thin black lines appeared, long and writhing, like headless worms crawling frantically beneath her flesh, searching for an exit they could not find.

It was horrifying.

The woman let out a shriek and leapt up. Black streaks filled her eyeballs as she viciously lunged at the nearest person.

“Ah—!”

The man couldn’t escape in time. She crashed into him, tearing a bloody chunk from his neck. Blood gushed forth, and within moments, black lines began spreading across his body too. His face contorted hideously as he set his sights on his next target.

“Help—! Somebody help—!”

“It’s an outbreak—call the police—!”

The rest screamed as they fled for the exits.

But the last runner’s steps faltered—two seconds later, another mutated human had joined the chaos.

Outside, screams and cries erupted in all directions.

The island had fallen into complete disorder.

Mu Lantu tossed aside the kitchen knife and grabbed two frying pans, charging out like a gust of wind.

Xu Huazhang had already paid and was waiting outside the checkout. Seeing him come, he opened his arms. When Mu Lantu leapt onto the counter, Xu Huazhang caught him firmly by the waist and set him safely on the ground.

At once, Mu Lantu shoved one pan into his hands. Xu Huazhang caught it precisely with one hand, the other lifting the shopping bags from the floor.

The next second, the two burst out of the supermarket, the wailing alarm fading behind them.

Though described in many steps, it had all happened in mere seconds—their flawless coordination a perfect display of the word tacit understanding.

“Help—save me—!”

“Mama—I want mama—!”

The beach was in chaos.

Mutated humans frenziedly attacked people. Ordinary humans had no means to resist. One after another fell, and within seconds, rose again as mutants to join the assault.

Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang were also targeted.

Mu Lantu swung his frying pan with roaring force. With a loud bang, a mutant was sent flying nearly ten meters like a ping-pong ball, his [super strength] skill amplifying the blow.

Smack! Another mutant was swatted away.

Xu Huazhang’s moves were calm and precise, flowing like water. Unlike Mu Lantu, who sent enemies flying, he struck downward—splattering a mutant’s skull and rendering it twitching, paralyzed, unable to move an inch.

“That frying pan’s so effective—could it be a prop?”

A player hiding behind a flowerbed gaped at the scene.

It wasn’t strange he thought so. His last dungeon had been in a village, where an old farmer’s homemade watering can had turned out to be a weapon—water from it could paralyze targets for thirty seconds!

The player glanced at the fleeing Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang, then at the supermarket behind him. Gritting his teeth, he tightened his grip on his fire axe and charged.

At the New Noble Hotel, Jia Lecheng and Xiong Ping held the glass doors open, shouting for people to run inside.

“Hurry—get in!”

Fan Wenyao stood behind them, smiling as he spotted Mu Lantu approaching quickly.

The moment Mu Lantu rushed inside, Jia Lecheng and Xiong Ping slammed the glass doors shut.

Xu Huazhang was left outside, swarmed by five or six mutants.

“Mu—”

Fan Wenyao smugly stepped up to Mu Lantu, just opening his mouth when wham!—the frying pan sent him flying.

Mu Lantu kicked Xiong Ping aside, yanked the door open, and let Xu Huazhang in.

As for Jia Lecheng—he had the sense to release the handle before Mu Lantu kicked him too.

Xu Huazhang jammed the frying pan’s handle through the door handles, locking them together.

Outside, the mutants howled furiously, ramming the glass without fear of pain. The booms made the survivors inside scream with every hit, as if echoing the monsters.

The terror carried a trace of dark comedy.

The receptionist steadied her trembling legs and staggered over. Terror still lingered on her face as she stammered, “E-everyone don’t worry, our doors are… v-very strong. They’re bulletproof glass! T-they can’t get in!”

“Got a chain lock?” Xu Huazhang asked.

“Y-yes, one moment.”

When Xu Huazhang secured the chain lock, Mu Lantu approached Fan Wenyao with his frying pan.

Fan Wenyao had fainted earlier but now stirred awake. Just as he tried to rise, Mu Lantu smacked him back down.

The survivors huddled together, horrified.

“Beggar-boy, how’s that? Fun? Hm? Fun?”

With each question, Mu Lantu struck him again, until Fan Wenyao’s face twisted in frustrated fury, unable to stand.

“Mu Lantu!”

Xu Huazhang glared coldly at Jia Lecheng and Xiong Ping.

Without hesitation, both betrayed Fan Wenyao.

“It was Fan Wenyao—no, it was Beggar-boy who forced us!”

The receptionist clutched her chest and bravely said, “Sir, if you keep hitting him, he’ll die… killing is against the law.”

Mu Lantu humbly accepted the rebuke. “You’re right.”

Xu Huazhang glanced at Fan Wenyao, then asked the survivors, “Has anyone inside the hotel mutated?”

They exchanged uncertain looks, none daring to answer. That was precisely why no one had gone to check.

The receptionist fought back tears. “Yes. The soundproofing is too good—we couldn’t hear anything downstairs… but I saw it on the monitors. So many people died in the halls…”

Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang headed for the fire stairs.

“Hey, where are you going?” a young woman shouted.

Neither answered.

She turned to the others. “Where are they going? Should we follow?”

“Maybe back to their room? Aren’t they afraid of dying?” someone guessed.

The young woman looked around. Though some men looked strong, not one of them had a decent weapon. She felt no safety here.

Suddenly, she stood up. “Let’s follow those two! They have weapons!”

Her companion nodded. The two ran toward the fire stairs—but Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang were already gone.

Of course they wouldn’t wait. They were long ahead.

Their destination: the 68th floor Presidential Suite.

They still didn’t know the cause of the mutations. Anywhere crowded was risky. But the 68th floor was one of the safest places—fewer people.

The sea would’ve been a good option too.

But Mu Lantu feared the waters weren’t counted as part of “Baihua Island.” Even if they survived five days, Infinite University might rule the mission a failure.

They couldn’t gamble on loopholes.

The rooftop would also have been ideal. Some hotels locked their roofs for safety; others had helipads, also closed to guests. But with a key, it was possible to enter.

Yet the New Noble Hotel’s rooftop was a garden, open to guests without restriction. Likely to prevent guests from accidentally locking themselves out, no locks had been installed at all.

That was why Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang had reached it so easily before.

This time, Mu Lantu put on a suit resembling hotel staff attire before stepping into the 68th floor’s monitored zone. He and Xu Huazhang knocked on doors until they found one occupied.

“Who’s there?”

Speaking urgently, Mu Lantu said, “Sir, I’m with the hotel staff! There’s an emergency—please evacuate immediately!”

The door opened. Before the occupants could react, he and Xu Huazhang forced their way in.

Two bodyguards stepped forward defensively. Behind them, a middle-aged couple stared at the intruders in terror.

“Take them down!”

The guards attacked.

Within a few moves, Mu Lantu and Xu Huazhang subdued them.

The couple shrank back in fright.

“What do you want? Don’t do anything rash!”

“Calm down—we mean no harm. We just want to shelter here, since the 68th floor has the fewest mutants,” Mu Lantu said soothingly. “As you can see, aside from these frying pans, we carry no lethal weapons. To show sincerity, we’ll release your guards immediately. How about that?”

The man hesitated, then said, “Release them first.”

“Alright.” Without hesitation, Mu Lantu let go of the guard’s shoulder.

The man rubbed it painfully. This youth’s hand was like an iron clamp.

Xu Huazhang released the other guard as well.

Both quickly retreated to shield their employers again.

The man hadn’t expected them to comply so easily. After a long pause, he cautiously said, “If it’s money you want, say it. I’ll give it to you, even sign a declaration that it’s voluntary. I don’t lack money—just don’t hurt me or my wife!”
