Chapter 16 – New Pet!
In midair, Zhou Qi looked down.
Amidst the swirling dust, a massive figure loomed. Under his gaze, the monster slowly raised its head.
It was a mutated giant dog. Its fur was very short, and its body was sleek and agile. Aside from its enormous size, the most distinctive feature was its eyes—
It had four eyes!
Above its original eyes was an additional pair of compound eyes, surrounded by golden fur.
Tang Yu’an clung tightly to Zhou Qi’s neck. Looking down at the monster, he couldn’t help but swallow hard.
If it weren’t for Brother Qi’s quick reaction, they might have already been attacked by this four-eyed giant dog. Come to think of it… Brother Qi dodged Granny Guo’s sickle incredibly fast this morning too!
And back then, they didn’t even have the Lightness Technique. When did Brother Qi become so powerful?
This thought flashed briefly through his mind because the four-eyed giant dog narrowed its eyes slightly, then leaped in place, pouncing toward them!
They were still in midair!
Fear caused Tang Yu’an to reflexively close his eyes. However, the pain he anticipated did not come. He only heard the sound of wind whistling past, followed by a loud bang.
He quickly opened his eyes to see the four-eyed giant dog landing again, while he and Zhou Qi had moved in another direction.
“Brother Qi…”
Tang Yu’an had just called out when Zhou Qi’s feet kicked down sharply. At the same time, he twisted his waist, forcibly changing direction with Tang Yu’an in tow.
In the next moment, the four-eyed giant dog, which had just landed, appeared again at the endpoint of their original trajectory, missing them and landing on the ground.
Too fast!
This was a speed that an ordinary human child like Tang Yu’an couldn’t adapt to!
Dodge!
Dodge!
Dodge!
In just over ten seconds, Zhou Qi had already evaded the giant dog’s attacks multiple times while holding him. Although he managed to dodge each time, he was merely escaping and couldn’t launch any effective counterattack.
This can’t go on…
Sweat dripped from Zhou Qi’s forehead. He didn’t dare to stop, nor could he afford any distraction. Naturally, he had no time to instruct Tang Yu’an.
What should we do…
When Zhou Qi finally reached his limit and his dodging speed slowed, the four-eyed giant dog grinned, revealing a ferocious expression.
It pounced once more.
The four-eyed giant dog could already imagine its teeth tearing through the prey’s skin, the delicious taste of flesh and blood filling its mouth and stomach with pleasure.
However, in the next moment, it saw the child who was always being held suddenly produce an umbrella. After he struggled to open it—
It lost its target!
The two teenagers vanished from its sight and perception, disappearing without a trace.
The four-eyed giant dog landed again. It scanned the ruins vigilantly but found no sign of the two teenagers—not even their scent.
Confused but unwilling to give up, it lingered where it was—its intuition told it that its prey was still nearby.
The four-eyed giant dog’s senses weren’t wrong.
Dozens of meters away, under a broken wall, Zhou Qi knelt on one knee, carefully steadying his rapid breathing.
Tang Yu’an stood beside him, holding the umbrella with one hand and wiping the sweat from his forehead with the other.
Changing direction and dodging midair without any support wasn’t easy. Even with the Lightness Technique, it had put significant strain on Zhou Qi’s body.
Now that they had landed, he clearly felt the pain from muscle strain. Being as agile as before was probably impossible.
Fortunately, at the critical moment, Tang Yu’an had taken out the special item he had just won—
[Shadow Umbrella]
[Description: Standing under the umbrella conceals all traces.]
It was this umbrella that completely hid them, saving their lives.
That four-eyed giant dog was unbelievably fast!
If Zhou Qi had encountered this monster yesterday, he might not have survived until Tang Yu’an’s rescue.
And today, even with the Lightness Technique, the Invincible Cat Teaser, and the Super Cool Dog Frisbee, they were still in such a dire situation. This made Tang Yu’an and Zhou Qi realize they could no longer take things lightly.
These monsters were truly dangerous!
Tang Yu’an noticed that the umbrella seemed to even mask sounds. Given the giant dog’s keen senses, it should have heard their breathing, but in reality, it hadn’t detected them.
Of course, he didn’t dare to risk it.
He took out his mother’s smartphone from his portable warehouse and communicated with Zhou Qi by typing.
Tang Yu’an: [Brother Qi, what should we do next?]
Zhou Qi: [Let’s wait a bit; I need to rest]
Tang Yu’an nodded and continued observing the giant dog.
After failing to find them for a long time, the giant dog walked over to the pile of trash Zhou Qi had discarded earlier and began licking the blood on the ground.
However, the pair of compound eyes on its forehead kept rotating vigilantly, watching its surroundings.
So strong, yet so cautious!
Tang Yu’an felt that this monster was simply unreasonable. If he hadn’t happened to win this umbrella that could make them invisible, they might have been done for today.
After a while, Zhou Qi finally stood up again.
He hoisted Tang Yu’an onto his back and took out the Super Cool Dog Frisbee from his portable warehouse.
Tang Yu’an gripped the Shadow-Concealing Umbrella tightly in one hand and clung to Zhou Qi with the other, wrapping his legs around Zhou Qi’s waist to free up his hands.
Zhou Qi had been watching the four-eyed giant dog intently.
Finally, seizing the moment when its eyes glanced away, he forcefully threw the Frisbee.
As soon as the Frisbee left his hand, the giant dog’s head snapped toward them. One pair of eyes focused on the Frisbee, while the other pair stared directly at Zhou Qi and Tang Yu’an under the umbrella.
They’d been discovered!
The moment the Frisbee left his hand, Zhou Qi leaped away. Almost instantly, the four-eyed giant dog appeared where they’d just been standing, teeth bared in a biting stance.
So fast!
Cold sweat broke out on Zhou Qi’s forehead. Due to his sudden movement, Tang Yu’an almost lost hold of the umbrella in the rush of wind.
Fortunately, the four-eyed giant dog’s attention was still drawn to the Frisbee. After missing its attack, it shifted its focus to the Frisbee.
Once again, it lunged at the Frisbee, landing with a massive thud that kicked up clouds of dust.
In the blurred vision, its enormous body shrank smaller and smaller. When Zhou Qi landed back on the ground and the swirling dust settled, they saw a small figure standing where the giant dog had been, holding the Frisbee in its mouth.
“It’s a four-eyed puppy,” Tang Yu’an said, unable to contain himself now that the crisis had passed.
Standing there with the Frisbee was indeed a four-eyed puppy.
The compound eyes above its eyes had vanished, leaving only two small tufts of golden fur amidst the surrounding black fur, making it look like it still had four eyes.
At this moment, it held the Frisbee in its mouth. Unable to find Zhou Qi and Tang Yu’an due to the Shadow-Concealing Umbrella, it anxiously circled around.
Tang Yu’an closed the umbrella, and upon seeing them, the puppy immediately wagged its tail and ran over.
Zhou Qi put on gloves again and took the Frisbee from the four-eyed puppy’s mouth—the Frisbee still had the giant lizard’s saliva on it, but it didn’t seem to affect the puppy.
After the Frisbee was taken away, the four-eyed puppy hesitated, its wagging tail gradually slowing. However, unlike the giant lizard-turned-big-yellow-dog, it didn’t run away.
It took two steps back, tilting its head to look at Tang Yu’an and Zhou Qi, its dark eyes filled with pure curiosity.
Tang Yu’an jumped down from Zhou Qi’s back.
Having dealt with Wang Cai before, he wasn’t afraid of this puppy. As long as he didn’t show hostility, it wouldn’t attack.
He carefully extended his hand.
The four-eyed puppy initially backed away but, seeing that the boy seemed harmless, approached to sniff his fingers, familiarizing itself with his scent.
Finally, it tilted its head at Tang Yu’an again, as if puzzled by his outstretched hand.
Tang Yu’an moved a little closer, lightly touching his forefinger to the puppy’s head.
The four-eyed puppy didn’t dodge; instead, as if recalling a memory, it stretched its head forward, actively nuzzling under Tang Yu’an’s palm.
Tang Yu’an chuckled and gently patted its head.
[Do you wish to accept it as a pet?]
Tang Yu’an selected [Yes] and gave the four-eyed puppy a name.
The previously bewildered puppy’s tail perked up again, wagging happily.
“From now on, your name is Yuan Bao,” Tang Yu’an said.
“Woof woof!”
The crisp, youthful bark sounded especially cute, as if responding to Tang Yu’an.
Looking at its obedient demeanor, Tang Yu’an found it hard to associate it with the monster from earlier. He thought for a moment and took out a sausage from his portable warehouse, breaking it in half to feed the four-eyed puppy.
The puppy yipped and gobbled up the sausage.
[Pet ‘Yuan Bao’ loyalty +1]
Tang Yu’an breathed a sigh of relief. After glancing at the map to ensure no new red dots had appeared nearby, he turned to Zhou Qi.
Having confirmed the four-eyed puppy was tamed, Zhou Qi sat on a nearby rock, drinking water and resting to regain his strength.
“Brother Qi, how are you feeling?”
“I’m okay,” Zhou Qi reassured him. “Just some muscle soreness.”
This was caused by forcibly changing direction midair and continuously leaping in a short period, leading to muscle strain, but it didn’t seem serious.
He felt warmth in the aching areas, similar to how his abrasions had healed yesterday. He should recover quickly.
“That’s good.”
Tang Yu’an sat beside him again, holding up the umbrella. With the Shadow-Concealing Umbrella, they didn’t have to fear being discovered by monsters.
After finishing the sausage, the four-eyed puppy lay down at his feet.
Tang Yu’an patted its head and looked at the umbrella’s information—
[Shadow Umbrella]
[Description: Standing under the umbrella conceals all traces.]
[Restriction: Can be used 10 times per day (Complete the artifact spirit’s wish to remove the restriction)]
[Remaining uses today: 8]
To remove the usage limit, they needed to fulfill the artifact spirit’s wish…
So, what was the artifact spirit’s wish?
Tang Yu’an looked up at the umbrella above his head and saw a line of text slowly appear before his eyes—
[Shadow Umbrella: I want to dye my umbrella green]
Tang Yu’an: O.O
