Chapter 64: Attention, Dear Residents
Lu Weiyi frowned. “When did he leave?”
“Left three days ago, I…”
Lu Weiyi gave him a cold look. He silently swallowed the words of pleading. Lu Weiyi continued to ask, “Three or four days ago, a man from Qingyuan was detained here with a child. Where are they?”
“They were taken to Qingyuan this morning.”
Still in two groups?
Lu Weiyi was puzzled and asked about what had happened after Zhuang Mingxu arrived and Li Ji’s plan.
From Flower Arms’ mouth, Lu Weiyi learned that the boss here, Li Ji, was indeed someone imprisoned in Wutong Second Prison, and that included their group as well. After Lu Weiyi rescued Dean, the remaining people feared retaliation and directly left the city in the direction of Qingyuan.
Who knew that they would encounter Li Ji and his group here, who had just discovered a place with a batch of black market weapons and were recruiting people to make a big move. Being acquaintances, they immediately banded together. After obtaining the weapons, they slowly collected and robbed to store supplies while also starting to expand their base kingdom.
When Zhuang Mingxu and his group arrived, Li Ji was immediately tempted upon hearing about the large batch of supplies. Moreover, Dongshan County was too small to hinder Li Ji’s ambitions. He planned to use Dongshan County as a rear base and make a name for himself in the Qingyuan City base, immediately deciding to use Zhuang Mingxu as his stepping stone.
The first thing he did after detaining Zhuang Mingxu was to return to Qingyuan with the Li Mingli brothers, planning to use the two of them as an excuse to infiltrate Zhuang Mingxu’s team, and then use Zhuang Mingxu as a hostage to do other things. As for what exactly he would do, Flower Arms himself didn’t know.
For a moment, Lu Weiyi couldn’t figure out why he would arrange things this way, but it was clear that it was more convenient for them.
“How many people did he take? How many supplies?” Lu Weiyi asked again.
“The first time, it was just him and the Li Mingli brothers. They only took a few days’ worth of food. This time, he had two hostages brought over, as well as about half of the people who came out of prison with us, about eighteen people in total. They didn’t bring much food, but they did bring a batch of weapons, all kinds of guns and bombs, and two oil tankers.”
“Oil tankers?” Lu Weiyi was a little surprised. “Are there any here?”
“There are still three oil tankers and two gas tankers,” Flower Arms said quickly when he saw Lu Weiyi raise an eyebrow. “They’re all on the elementary school playground.”
Lu Weiyi nodded and continued to ask, “Did they take all the weapons?”
Flower Arms hesitated a bit. Lu Weiyi didn’t force him and weighed the watermelon knife in his hand. “Then I’ll ask someone else.”
As soon as Lu Weiyi got up, Flower Arms immediately said, “No, about half are left, stored on the top floor of this building.”
“What about the supplies? Where do you store your supplies?”
“It’s all upstairs.”
Lu Weiyi raised an eyebrow. “Just these?”
“The building next door too.”
“Nothing else?”
“The surrounding four buildings are all full. I’ve really told you everything. Please let me go…”
Lu Weiyi thought for a moment and asked about the ability users in the team. He was surprised to learn that there was actually someone with space ability among the group that left today. He didn’t know if it was a space ability user or a jade pendant space. If it was a jade pendant space, he could directly snatch it later and give it to Zhuang Mingxu, which wouldn’t be bad.
After Lu Weiyi asked in detail about all the ability users here and their characteristics, he couldn’t think of anything else for the moment. He directed the little green branch to control Flower Arms and then let another person in, asking the same questions again.
After the four people answered, Lu Weiyi asked about another location for storing weapons and a part of the supplies. The other storage location wasn’t even inside the safe zone; instead, it was in a hospital a bit further away. That kind of place had the most zombies. He had to say, Li Ji was quite clever to use zombies to guard the supplies so that no one could touch them.
After asking everything, Lu Weiyi didn’t know what to do for a moment. These four people definitely couldn’t be left alive, and the weapons were definitely going to be taken. As for the supplies? He didn’t know whether to leave them or take them all.
If he left them, no matter how much he left, it definitely wouldn’t end up in the hands of the people below. If he took them all, the people below wouldn’t be able to survive. At this moment, he regretted not letting Li Zhuang and the others come with him.
After a moment of silence, Lu Weiyi got up and walked upstairs, deciding to at least take the weapons first. The supplies from the lower floors to the higher floors were still food, drinks, seasonings, daily necessities, clothes, bedding, cigarettes, alcohol, and medicine. Further up were actually gold, silver, jade, and antique jewelry. The top floor was the weapons, neatly arranged in various categories, covering all aspects of life, clearly managed by a dedicated person.
Anyone who saw these supplies in the five buildings would be envious. Lu Weiyi took a look around and neatly stored everything away, immediately deciding that he would take the trouble to deal with the remaining “criminals” in the base, rescue the innocent people they had detained, and then—take the supplies from three more buildings as his reward.
Going downstairs again, Lu Weiyi used the half of the zombie jawbone he had brought to stab each of the four people.
He didn’t like killing, but letting them go was definitely impossible. Inflicting them with zombie energy meant that surviving and awakening abilities would be their good fortune; otherwise, it was their destiny.
Going out quietly again, Lu Weiyi didn’t alert the two guards patrolling. Instead, according to Flower Arms’ information, he went to another building. According to him, eight leaders were left, each guarding the five surrounding buildings. He decided to deal with the people inside one by one before dealing with the patrolling guards outside.
In the building closer to the east, there were three men and two women, engaging in a multi-person activity in broad daylight. Lu Weiyi went up first to collect the supplies before climbing down and quietly stabbing each of the three men. As for the two women, Lu Weiyi couldn’t guarantee if they were part of the group. Not directly killing them was his last bit of leeway. Surviving was their ability; not surviving was unavoidable.
After all, his purpose here wasn’t to be a savior, and he couldn’t save everyone.
He ran through all five buildings. There were twenty to thirty people inside in total. The commotion caused by twenty to thirty zombies was enough to attract the attention of the patrolling guards. Lu Weiyi had originally planned to ignore the patrols and leave directly. He was about to leave when he heard them talking on walkie-talkies, and he turned back.
Just as he was preparing to repeat his trick, using the zombie jawbone to stab each of them, “bang, bang” two sounds rang out. The running patrolmen instantly fell to the ground, a pool of blood instantly appearing on their foreheads. Lu Weiyi immediately hid.
This was followed by a burst of chaotic gunfire. Lu Weiyi hid in the room and peeked out with the little green branch, spotting Li Zhuang and Lin Yimu, who had entered at some unknown time, each holding a gun, shooting accurately with every shot.
Now that Lu Weiyi had no more concerns, he quickly directed the little green branch to collect the guns and walkie-talkies from the fallen people. Then, he dropped a large pile of food from the collected supplies, avoiding the sight of the crowd as he ran towards the two men.
The elementary school next door must have housed the “residents” of this base. Hearing the chaotic fighting, many people could be seen looking out of the dormitory and classroom windows. There were definitely thousands of them, but only about a hundred were fighting the people in uniform.
“Young Master,” Lin Yimu said, seeing Lu Weiyi approach. He glanced him up and down, and relieved to see he wasn’t injured, asked, “Did you find Mingxu?”
“He was taken away, at eight in the morning,” Lu Weiyi said, taking out a loudspeaker and handing it to Li Zhuang. “I left the supplies downstairs in the residential building. The leader has become a zombie. Let them go get it.”
Li Zhuang nodded, picked up the loudspeaker, and in a gruff voice recorded a few sentences announcing their liberation and other such things. He handed it back to Lu Weiyi, who had the little green branch drag the loudspeaker to an inconspicuous corner. “Let’s go,” the three retreated while pressing play.
“Attention, dear residents: The base tyrant has been dealt with. All supplies are downstairs in the residential building. Everyone, hurry up and take what you need…”
As the message repeated continuously, the three of them had already left the residential area and arrived at the place opposite that Li Zhuang and the other had temporarily cleared out.
“Li Zhuang and I saw you going back and forth between the buildings, and zombies appeared wherever you went, so we took it upon ourselves to go in,” Lin Yimu explained their actions, then looked at Lu Weiyi again and asked, “Young Master, are you hurt?”
“No,” Lu Weiyi said, looking out the window. From here, they could see the situation opposite clearly. Those who hadn’t resisted at all earlier, hearing the loudspeaker’s repeated message, were now running towards the supplies in groups, like wild horses that had broken free, even causing some trampling.
As for the place where the supplies were placed, people were already fighting over them. Lu Weiyi felt a bit lost, wondering if he had done the wrong thing.
“This group of people separated men and women. The men worked, and the women were for their entertainment. I saw some who were still children. Although it looks a bit chaotic now, it’s definitely much better than them being enslaved and treated as toys,” Lin Yimu patted Lu Weiyi’s shoulder and said, “Let’s go.”
“Mmm,” Lu Weiyi was confused, but he wasn’t the type to blame himself. After all, the majority had been rescued. He pointed to the street next to them. “Go that way, I need to go to the playground.” There were still a few oil tankers there that he wanted to take with him.
“Okay,” Li Zhuang replied.
The three quickly got into the car. Li Zhuang did a tailspin, knocking over a few zombies that came at them, and drove towards the street beside the elementary school playground. “Brother Mu, help me jump in.”
“Okay,” Lin Yimu replied.
The earlier gunshots had attracted many zombies nearby. This safe zone hadn’t been established for long, and the surrounding courtyard walls hadn’t been heightened or reinforced. They were still the original ones, and some collapsed areas were just piled up with things to form high walls. The noise and the smell of blood from the wounded stimulated the zombies, and some had already jumped in, while the people inside were still obsessed with the supplies.
The road Lu Weiyi needed to take was around the safe zone, and many more zombies had gathered, making driving very difficult. The car kept colliding, and some zombies that were hit flew onto the windshield, directly cracking it.
“Lin Yimu and I will hold them off, you hurry,” Li Zhuang said, stopping the car at a part of the wall that had broken down. He pushed open the car door and swung a triangular knife. Lin Yimu and Lu Weiyi followed closely, quickly clearing a circle of zombies. Lin Yimu lifted Lu Weiyi up again, and Lu Weiyi climbed onto the courtyard wall and jumped in again.
Five tankers were lined up in a row on the playground. There might have been patrols originally, but they should all be at the front now, which conveniently helped Lu Weiyi. He remotely controlled the little green branch to reach over and instantly store them before returning to the courtyard wall.
With a jump, the three of them immediately and tacitly repelled the few zombies that surrounded them, quickly got into the car, and with a stomp on the gas pedal, drove off.
Thank you for the update!
