Chapter 5: Space Reports for Duty (2)
Suddenly reborn, Lu Weiyi didn’t feel as excited as described in those books and novels. Of course, this was related to the fact that he didn’t have many regrets or great ambitions.
He sat down cross-legged and used his mental power to bring over the cage of buns. After eating a few, he had adjusted to the feeling of sudden rebirth. He patted his butt and stood up. The fresh scent of peaches wafted over again.
He hadn’t eaten fresh fruit in a long time.
Anyway, there was no one else here.
Lu Weiyi nimbly got up and picked a large peach, casually wiped it, and took a big bite. Before he could discern the taste, a shaking like an earthquake occurred. He staggered around for a long time before finally making intimate contact with the ground. To make matters worse, he was standing not far from the well, and if he hadn’t tried to lift his head, his head would have fallen in.
Having lived two lifetimes, Lu Weiyi felt the urge to curse for the first time.
The cracking sounds made Lu Weiyi cautiously look around. He saw that the ground, which was already covered in jagged cracks, was becoming even more uneven.
This small world seemed to be breaking apart.
The trembling of the ground made the prone Lu Weiyi bounce a few times involuntarily. The area above his chest moved closer to the well, and Lu Weiyi quickly supported himself on the well’s edge with both hands.
With a “thump,” he didn’t fall in, but the jade pendant that had been passed down through his mother’s family for generations fell into the water around his neck.
Immediately afterward, the shaking of the ground suddenly stopped. Lu Weiyi looked in surprise at the deep green jade pendant in the water as it seemed to melt, quickly turning into a pile of white dregs. If the shape hadn’t remained the same, Lu Weiyi would have suspected someone had swapped it.
Before he could figure out what was happening, the jagged, broken edges of the well near the opening gradually smoothed out and finally returned to their original state, showing no signs of ever being broken. This restorative tremor, originating from the well opening, radiated outwards for nearly two meters before gradually disappearing.
Was this… the jade pendant repairing itself?
Using jade to nourish jade?
Lu Weiyi wasn’t sure. His thoughts shifted, and he exited the jade pendant space. Just as he was about to find a piece of jade to test, a sharp pain surged through his body, as if something was growing deep within his bone marrow, pushing through flesh and blood vessels, with a feeling of breaking through the earth.
“Mmm…” The young master, who had never suffered hardships, naturally couldn’t endure the pain. A soft groan escaped his lips, and for the countless time, he asked himself, “Why was I reborn?”.
The excruciating pain felt like an eternity, but in reality, it wasn’t even half a minute before Lu Weiyi fainted.
A moment later, a hint of green gradually emerged on his fair wrist. Then, tiny green leaves and stems grew as if alive, finally intertwining and weaving into a garland-like bracelet, which settled on Lu Weiyi’s wrist.
When he woke up again, it was already that evening. The flight was delayed, but Lu Weiyi wasn’t too anxious anymore.
Looking at the green bracelet that had inexplicably appeared on his wrist, Lu Weiyi was completely dumbfounded. He reached out to pluck a leaf, wanting to test if it would hurt.
With a “snap,” a thread-like thin branch directly hit his finger, instantly leaving a red mark and startling Lu Weiyi.
This thing was alive, conscious…
“What is this?”
Lu Weiyi stared at it for a long time but didn’t get an answer. Instead, a vague but undeniable consciousness seemed to appear in his mind.
Unable to figure it out, Lu Weiyi didn’t dwell on it. Anyway, he would solve it after meeting up with Zhuang Mingxu.
He rebooked a flight that night and left early this time. When passing by a jewelry store, he casually spent a small fortune to buy two pendants with good luster and threw them into the well water in his space.
Without even looking, the tremor that seemed to come from his soul and the tingling itch below his navel reminded him of the effect. However, perhaps due to the difference in age, it wasn’t as effective as his own jade pendant, only vibrating for a few seconds, and one wouldn’t even notice it without careful attention.
Knowing it was useful, Lu Weiyi didn’t linger. Every wealthy family had many good jades, and some even possessed ancient jades.
What he needed to do now was to quickly reunite with Zhuang Mingxu, and then – he could continue his salted fish life of eating and waiting to die.
