Chapter 40: Heading for Supplies (1)
When he woke up at dawn, Antonio was already full of energy and moving freely. Lu Weiyi went downstairs and saw him talking to Li Zhuang, who was leaning against the door. When Dean saw him, he called out affectionately, “Lu, breakfast… ready.” He held up his fingers to indicate himself and Antonio, “Together.”
Dean had started speaking Chinese. It seemed the previous events had made him more aware.
Lu Weiyi nodded, glancing at the breakfast he mentioned.
Three glasses of milk, two servings of yogurt-soaked oatmeal, slices of bread neatly arranged on a plate, several ham sausages cut into sections and thoughtfully shaped into octopus legs (though not grilled, so the legs weren’t curled open), and sliced braised chicken legs arranged with braised eggs in a pattern were on the table.
Like coaxing a child.
But in Antonio’s eyes, wasn’t Dean just a child?
“Sorry for using your things without permission,” Antonio said, though without much apology. He knew he could repay it.
“It’s okay,” Lu Weiyi replied, looking at Li Zhuang. “I’m not going building sweeping.”
“Mm. I’m going to look for supplies today. Little friend, want to come along?” He glanced at the bags of food Lu Weiyi had brought back yesterday. One snakeskin bag was already empty.
Dean explained in a slightly embarrassed and stammering voice, “David… hasn’t eaten… for a few… days…”
Lu Weiyi nodded. Newly awakened abilities weren’t stable yet, and at this time, a large amount of food was needed to replenish energy. This wasn’t surprising to Lu Weiyi.
“I’ll go with him to find food. The two of them will stay here,” Antonio said, then explained it to Dean in English.
“I can go with you,” Dean didn’t want to be separated from Antonio, but he also knew they needed to find food. He said anxiously.
Antonio leaned down and kissed his forehead. “You have a fever, be good. Is it safe here?”
“The zombies nearby have been cleared. No one will come,” Li Zhuang replied, looking at Lu Weiyi. “Aren’t you going?”
Before Lu Weiyi could answer, Antonio explained to him first, “You saved Dean, and you saved my life. In the future, you and Dean can just stay here. I will take care of the food.” Although Antonio knew Lu Weiyi had gone out to find food once, he thought it was out of necessity. Especially since he only carried a backpack at the time, and with his naturally thin and small appearance, he looked particularly pitiful. Antonio automatically assumed he was a poor little thing with no one to rely on.
Before Lu Weiyi could speak, Dean retorted first, “David, I can do it, I want to…”
Antonio held Dean in his arms gently. “Dean, be good, I’ll come back safely, I promise. Take your medicine and sleep well, don’t worry me.”
“But…”
“Did you forget this?” Antonio reached out, and the fork on the table flew over, circling around Antonio. Whether for defense or attack, it only took a moment.
A look of surprise flashed across Li Zhuang’s eyes, but he quickly returned to normal.
Lu Weiyi had known this all along. He reached out and took a set of cutlery from the knives and forks hovering in the air. The slight resistance was the invisible energy he was manipulating, too weak to withstand human force. He walked to the table.
This action surprised Antonio. He chose to make a move at this time, firstly to deter Li Zhuang from having any other thoughts since they had just arrived, and also to let Lu Weiyi see his abilities, lest he think he was weak and give Dean a hard time.
But at this moment, Lu Weiyi looked completely unfazed, which made Antonio feel like a bumpkin. Feeling awkward, Antonio didn’t show it, collected all the cutlery, and continued to comfort his little boyfriend.
