Chapter 38: Partner Knocks on the Door (2)
When he knocked on Lu Weiyi’s door empty-handed to tell him he was living next door, Lu Weiyi was completely dumbfounded. He wanted to argue, but the room next door was indeed empty, especially since Li Zhuang had used a reason that couldn’t be refused: it would be convenient to deal with any changes immediately.
Looks like I need to be more careful in the future.
Lu Weiyi thought, while also feeling anxious about why Zhuang Mingxu hadn’t arrived yet. If he were here, he wouldn’t have to consider so much. No matter what happened, Zhuang Mingxu could handle it.
There were no ropes at home, so Li Zhuang used a bed sheet to tie Antonio’s hands, then wrapped him in two layers, turning him into a silkworm cocoon, and placed him in a room on the first floor.
Lu Weiyi and Dean made two trips to bring all the things from the car back, and Lu Weiyi roughly explained the situation to Dean on the way.
As soon as they entered the house, Lu Weiyi casually piled the things in the living room and collapsed onto the sofa.
Dean went to check on Antonio and said dejectedly, “He’s been asleep all day.”
“He should be fine,” Lu Weiyi wasn’t good at comforting people. After a dry sentence, he didn’t know what else to say. Seeing that it was time for dinner, Lu Weiyi prepared to get something to eat. The food he had prepared in his space hadn’t been taken out yet, and he froze.
Lu Weiyi wouldn’t settle for just anything to eat if he could avoid it. He usually ate the things he had stored in his space in advance with bread and instant noodles. But taking out a hot meal at this time would definitely arouse suspicion.
He got up and went upstairs, taking out a set of gas cylinders. One was already half used. The good thing was that it was directly connected to a gas stove, so it could be used directly, saving him from having to figure out how to connect it. With two pots placed on it, it was a set of cookware. Lu Weiyi gave himself a thumbs up for his cleverness in taking whatever he could find.
He carried the gas cylinder in one hand and the stove in the other, calling Dean downstairs for help.
“What’s this?” Dean took the gas stove he handed over, carefully handling the connected pipe, and went downstairs with him.
“Gas, we can cook things to eat.”
Dean’s eyes lit up. “This big one can last a long time, right? The gas canisters for BBQs are very small, they run out after a few uses.”
“Should… be able to, right?” Once it’s used up, just change to another one. Lu Weiyi had nearly thirty gas canisters in his space, but they were consumables after all. It would be more practical to find a few generators.
Generators run on oil.
So he’d have to find oil too.
Oh, so troublesome.
Where exactly is Zhuang Mingxu?
Lu Weiyi’s mind wandered as he put a few packs of instant noodles and some braised eggs and ham sausages into a pot.
“It’ll take a while,” Lu Weiyi said, seeing Dean staring longingly. He handed him a bottle of water. “Have some of this first.”
Hearing that there would be food for him too, Dean pursed his lips, thought for a moment, then took the bottle, saying solemnly, “When David wakes up, we’ll return this to you together.” Then, seeming to feel it wasn’t sincere enough, he quickly added, “Even if David doesn’t wake up, I’ll return it to you in the future.”
“Mm,” Lu Weiyi nodded. “Use anything you need in the house. If it runs out, we’ll find more.”
Dean had only eaten a pack of biscuits and hadn’t had a drop of water in two days. He couldn’t care about appearances now and gulped down most of the bottle of water before quickly running inside to feed the rest to Antonio.
A moment later, the instant noodles emitted an enticing aroma. Lu Weiyi waited for him to eat a large bowl before asking about their situation.
According to Dean, after they separated that day, the two of them went straight back to the hotel. Antonio felt that the world would become more unstable in the future, and after much consideration, decided to store more supplies. However, the hotel didn’t allow people to store things, and the supplies left there wouldn’t be safe either. They discussed Dean staying at the hotel with the gun to guard the supplies while Antonio went out to collect more nearby. They would go together to a safe zone when the government established one.
A few days passed like this, and the number of zombies gradually increased. Someone, in a panic, led the zombies from a nearby hospital to the hotel, and Antonio happened to encounter them on his way back, accidentally getting injured.
“They wanted to kill David because he was injured. I didn’t agree, so they kicked us out and took our supplies,” Dean said, his face full of resentment. A moment later, he started crying again. “Then David became delirious. He told me to come find you…”
In a small city, finding someone who spoke English and could communicate with Dean, Antonio probably had no choice but to entrust Dean to Lu Weiyi, whom he had only met twice.
