Chapter 37: Partner Knocks on the Door (1)
His initial mental power was easily exhausted, especially since Lu Weiyi had not only scouted the way and defended himself but also killed someone along the way. Now it was no longer enough to support him wandering outside alone.
Lu Weiyi didn’t stop along the way. When he encountered zombies, he just directed the little green branch to gently push them aside, ensuring they didn’t fall onto the hood before driving over them.
He returned to the community smoothly. Besides the little green-haired guard, Li Zhuang was also at the gate. Seeing his car, Li Zhuang walked over and glanced into the car. “Kid, not bad haul.”
Lu Weiyi nodded, waiting for him to open the barrier gate.
Li Zhuang’s gaze then swept to the back seat. He put his hands in his pockets and said, “I need to check them?”
Lu Weiyi unlocked the car. Li Zhuang rummaged around for a moment, then frowned as he pinched Antonio’s wrist and looked at Lu Weiyi. At the same time, one hand directly grabbed Antonio’s neck. As long as Antonio made the slightest move, he could snap his neck immediately. “Kid, he’s been bitten.”
Lu Weiyi turned around in surprise and looked at the wrist he was holding. There was indeed a tooth mark there, deep enough to see bone. Although there was no obvious black blood around it, only a fool would believe it was a human bite, and Li Zhuang clearly didn’t look like a fool.
“You didn’t know?” Li Zhuang asked, intending to drag the person out. Just then, the unconscious Dean woke up. He saw a fierce-looking man trying to kill Antonio and, while grabbing the person next to him, reached out to push the man away, his hoarse voice shouting “Let go!” in Chinese. He had almost crawled onto Antonio’s body.
“He’s been bitten,” Li Zhuang didn’t let go.
Dean didn’t understand what he meant. He only knew that he couldn’t let anyone take Antonio away. He couldn’t push the man away and sat tightly on Antonio’s body, his arms around his neck, as if the two of them would never be separated.
“He was bitten by a zombie,” Lu Weiyi repeated in English.
Dean suddenly turned his head and saw Lu Weiyi. Only then did he realize they were no longer in that dark little room. He exclaimed in surprise, “Lu Weiyi!” After realizing what Lu Weiyi had said, his eyes immediately filled with tears. He replied, “He hasn’t turned into a zombie, he won’t bite! Really, he’s been unconscious, he won’t bite…”
“Lu Weiyi, please, please don’t let them take him away…”
Lu Weiyi had never seen Dean so disheveled. When he met him, Antonio had protected him perfectly. Coupled with his mutated healing ability, everyone around him wished they could fawn over him to the heavens. He always had the appearance of a clean little prince, an exceptional sight in this apocalyptic world.
For the sake of their old friendship as canaries in their previous lives, Lu Weiyi nodded. “I can take him first, but he needs to be tied up. Once he changes, I will kill him immediately.” Although he knew Antonio would awaken a metal-type ability, he still had to say the unpleasant things first to avoid any unexpected situations.
After Dean nodded quickly, he turned his head to look at Li Zhuang warily.
Lu Weiyi explained the situation to Li Zhuang again, thinking it would take a long time to resolve. Lu Weiyi was even prepared to take them to another place for a couple of days if necessary. Who knew that Li Zhuang would just nod lightly and say, “I’ll go with you.”
Lu Weiyi thought that “go with you” meant escorting them back, but who knew that after tying them up, Li Zhuang directly moved into the empty house next door to Lu Weiyi’s.
