Chapter 23: The Time Isn’t Right, Wait a Little Longer (1)
Antonio took the lead to look inside. Confirming it was safe, he then beckoned Dean to come in.
Large supermarkets all had unified restocking warehouses. The warehouses attached to the stores weren’t very big. For a supermarket of several hundred square meters, the warehouse was only a few dozen, the size of a room, and even had a lot of empty space.
Dean rummaged through the things first, then pouted. “So little stuff, not even as much food as that small supermarket we found a few days ago.” Saying that, he threw a bunch of flashy snacks into a backpack. Antonio only glanced at his actions, the corners of his lips slightly upturned.
Lu Weiyi silently shook his head, noncommittal about his indulgence.
If he didn’t stumble, he wouldn’t wake up.
When Lu Weiyi met them in his previous life, Dean was no longer like this. Although he couldn’t stand alone, he wasn’t as ignorant of hardship as he was today.
Lu Weiyi packed a few bottles of water and some instant noodles and ham sausages, filling his small outdoor backpack. Antonio walked around first, getting a mental inventory of everything. Then, he pulled open a cabinet door from the innermost corner, took out a still-frozen ice cream and handed it to Dean. Dean’s eyes lit up, and he nimbly darted over, flipped through them, and handed one to Lu Weiyi who had come closer.
“How can there be electricity here?” Dean asked.
“There should be a backup generator,” Antonio listened intently, pointing to one side. “It should be in that direction.”
Lu Weiyi directly spread his mental power in the direction he indicated. Sure enough, there was a small operating machine in a room a dozen meters away.
This was a good thing.
Zhuang Mingxu had once acquired several of these, ensuring that their team had hot food all the way back to the Capital. Lu Weiyi decided he must take this thing away later.
Besides a few boxes of ice cream, there were also some frozen raw meat and bags of fish balls piled up randomly in the freezer. Antonio felt it was a pity. He flipped through them and then turned to look at other things. After getting a rough idea, he began to pack his bag: instant noodles, ham sausages, chocolate, cDean. He perfectly utilized every bit of space. What Lu Weiyi found even more unbelievable was that he packed two bags of salt.
Lu Weiyi only remembered at this moment that salt indeed became a scarce commodity when the weather got hot. Not only did a large amount of sweat take away the body’s salt, but people’s lives were also inseparable from salt. Many people fell ill due to a lack of salt in their food.
He heard that a family in one base controlled the entire base because they were the first to occupy a large salt processing plant. It wasn’t until a few years later, when the apocalypse stabilized and various safe zones began to interact, with coastal safe zones starting to sell salt, that salt once again became a common item.
Lu Weiyi remembered that he seemed to only have the dozen or so packs of salt he had taken from the supermarket downstairs in his space. He immediately became alert and quickly threw out some of the things in his backpack, putting a few packs of salt in.
Antonio only glanced at him and didn’t say much. After packing his own backpack, he took out a woven bag and began to stuff things into it. He also put a lot of flour and rice in.
Once the two large bags were full, almost all the edible things here were packed. He carried his backpack, protected the two bags with one hand, slung them over his shoulder, and picked up the steel rod.
“We’re leaving, are you coming?” Dean slung his backpack on and stood up, following Antonio, looking at Lu Weiyi who was sitting on a box, swinging his legs, and stuffing a small cake into his mouth.
Lu Weiyi had originally wanted them to leave so he could stay here and take all the remaining salt, but the emptied supermarket might have already aroused Antonio’s suspicion. If he emptied the place, Antonio might make a surprise return, and he would be exposed.
Even if he was familiar with them, that was from his previous life. They had only just met, and Lu Weiyi couldn’t guarantee that Antonio, a ruthless killer, wouldn’t have thoughts of killing and looting.
Without Zhuang Mingxu here, Lu Weiyi wouldn’t dare to take risks no matter how bold he was.
