Chapter 155: Misunderstanding
“Hehe,” Zhuang Ai Yi giggled, wrapping his arms around Lu Weiyi’s neck. “Big daddy misses you too. He always zones out, and when I ask, he says he’s thinking of you.”
“Really?” Lu Weiyi looked around but didn’t see anyone, then stood up and headed for the house.
Behind them, the group waited for Lu Weiyi’s brother, Lu Xi, to come down. They eagerly asked about Li Zhuang’s condition, especially about his injuries, as they had been worried for days. Now seeing that he was okay, they were both relieved and curious.
When Zhuang Mingxu saw Lu Weiyi carrying Zhuang Ai Yi into the house, a smile appeared on his face. Soon after, Li Zhuang, fully recovered, appeared. His heart finally settled.
But before he could speak, a young girl appeared in front of everyone. Everyone paused in surprise as she bowed and, in a clear and pleasant voice, said:
“Hello everyone, I’m Yun Lu. Weiyi brought me back. Please take care of me from now on.”
The spacious living room fell silent in an instant. Everyone’s gaze first fixed on the girl who had suddenly appeared, then shifted to Lu Weiyi, and finally landed on Zhuang Mingxu.
Lu Weiyi felt like something about her words didn’t quite sit right, but after thinking it over, he realized there was nothing wrong and chose not to dwell on it. He smiled and walked toward Zhuang Mingxu while holding Zhuang Ai Yi.
Zhuang Mingxu, who had been smiling upon seeing Lu Weiyi, still held the wheelchair with a tight grip, his hand visibly tense, the muscles bulging. He looked at Lu Weiyi, waiting for an explanation.
Lu Weiyi didn’t notice this.
In a great mood, he walked over to Zhuang Mingxu’s side, placed Zhuang Ai Yi down, and said, “I met a healer-type ability user at the Xiangning City base, the one from the Xu family, Xu Yi. I made a deal with Xu Sen to take you there to get your leg treated soon.”
Zhuang Mingxu paused for a long moment before processing what Lu Weiyi had said, “A healer-type ability user?”
“Yes, Li Zhuang’s spinal injury was fixed by Xu Yi, even his displaced ribs are fine now,” Lu Weiyi explained, clearly excited about this big achievement.
He crouched down, looking up at Zhuang Mingxu and placing his hand on his knee. “Your leg will heal soon.”
Zhuang Mingxu, hearing this, was both happy and conflicted.
Lu Weiyi had been by his side since his youth, and Zhuang Mingxu had never given him the chance to choose between liking men or women, directly defining their relationship. Lu Weiyi had never seemed to care about these things either. After the apocalypse, Zhuang Mingxu had naturally come to assume that they were mutually in love.
But now, here was a young, beautiful, and vibrant girl gazing at Lu Weiyi with admiration, openly saying, “It was Weiyi who brought me here,” and Lu Weiyi didn’t refute her…
Everyone was secretly watching the situation, but Zhuang Mingxu didn’t want to give them the chance to watch the drama unfold. He lowered his gaze to hide the darkness in his heart and resumed his gentle demeanor, saying, “Thank you, Xiao Yi.”
Having spent many years with Zhuang Mingxu, Lu Weiyi might not have fully understood why he was angry, but he could still sense his emotions. “Aren’t you happy?” he raised an eyebrow and asked.
“Happy,” Zhuang Mingxu said, ruffling his hair, “I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”
Lu Weiyi gave a proud smile.
“You haven’t eaten, right? I made a few more dishes. Let’s eat while it’s hot,” Xi Shi and Gu Qingyue came out of the kitchen, carrying large steaming plates of food.
“Brother Xi, I’ve missed your cooking so much, we’ve been eating nothing but bread for days,” Antonio immediately detached himself from Dean’s sweet talk and looked at Xi Shi with shining eyes.
“Then let’s hurry and sit down,” Xi Shi said, but then noticed there were two women in the living room. “Are these… Li Zhuang’s family?”
They all knew Lu Weiyi’s family, but Lu Xi wouldn’t show up here, and Antonio certainly wouldn’t, so it had to be Li Zhuang.
Li Zhuang shrugged and shook his head.
Having overheard all this, Xiong Jie quickly pulled Xi Shi back into the kitchen. “I’ll go help serve them some hot soup.”
Gu Qingyue saw that something didn’t feel right. He glanced at Gu Qingji, who subtly shook his head. Not wanting to ask more, they waited as Xu Sa casually pointed out seats for the mother and son, arranging for them to sit.
The lively dinner did not lose its atmosphere because of the extra two people. In fact, everyone was very interested in the healer-type ability user. Antonio, while eating, gave an impassioned speech about how their group had stirred things up at the Xiangning City base.
“Lu Xiaoyi, I can’t believe you, who barely passed your exams back then, are now such a smooth talker?” Xu Sa said, getting excited.
“Of course,” Lu Weiyi, relaxed now that he was home, spoke proudly, recalling the gains from their trip. He took out some mutated fruits from his space. “Here, try something good.”
“That’s just a peach, right?” Ning Yuan said, uneasy about Lu Weiyi bringing back a woman, “We’ve all seen peaches before.”
His sharp words were met with silence. Most of the team relied on Lu Weiyi, so no one would criticize their benefactor, especially when his actions hadn’t affected their own interests.
“It’s a mutated fruit,” Lu Weiyi, not picking up on his tone, happily replied. “It contains energy that’s really good for normal people. I’m letting you try it now, but don’t get your hopes up for more.”
“Well, I’ll take the first pick then,” Xu Sa said, grabbing a bowl and asking Lu Weiyi to add a few more fruits. He then went to the kitchen to wash them and let everyone choose.
Lu Weiyi then pulled out a green ball from his space and handed it to Zhuang Mingxu. “Guess what this is?”
Zhuang Mingxu, already on edge from Yun Lu’s sudden appearance and after hearing Antonio’s account of Lu Weiyi’s actions at the Xiangning City base, felt uneasy. He distractedly took the fruit, shaking his head. “I don’t know.”
Lu Weiyi, seemingly indifferent, handed a peeled fruit to Zhuang Ai Yi, who eagerly ate it. Seeing Zhuang Mingxu just holding his, Lu Weiyi peeled another one and handed it to him. “Is it good?”
“Mm,” Zhuang Mingxu didn’t really taste it. Even after Lu Weiyi spoke to him, he wasn’t very focused, let alone picking up on the small hint of praise Lu Weiyi was hoping for.
On the other hand, Zhuang Ai Yi, who had eaten his fruit first, spoke up. “Little daddy, my tummy feels warm.”
“If you eat this every day, you won’t get sick,” Lu Weiyi said patiently.
“Big daddy should eat it too,” Zhuang Ai Yi added.
“Okay,” Lu Weiyi pinched his chubby little face.
Although Lu Weiyi had made some good gains, he still shared them with everyone. After letting them taste the mutated fruit, he placed the remaining wild plants he had collected in the living room. “These plants have been contaminated by the mutated spring ivy energy. I don’t know if any are edible, but if anyone recognizes them, you can pick them out and use them for cooking.”
“Did you just scrape up the land?” Xu Sa looked at the various plants, which clearly had a layer of dirt on them, and asked.
“Yeah,” Lu Weiyi, full and satisfied, yawned. “These things taste best fresh. You guys can work now; I’m going to bed.” He then looked at the people at the dining table and said, “Tomorrow morning, we go out to hunt zombies, the usual time. Also, anyone who is about to level up, let me know so I can rest early.”
The other abilities nodded, and Lu Weiyi turned and went back to his room.
“Weiyi,” a soft voice called out, and the living room immediately fell silent.
Lu Weiyi, who had already reached the door to his room, turned back and saw Yun Lu looking at him with an expectant expression. Her mother, Guan Tong, was pulling her, but it had no effect. “I… can I live with the child?” she asked, her face flushed and shy. “I want to develop a relationship with him in advance.”
Zhuang Mingxu’s face instantly turned pale, and the others in the living room tried to find an excuse to leave. However, it was clearly inappropriate to say anything at this moment, so they just quietly lowered their presence and pretended not to exist.
Lu Weiyi gave the girl a bewildered look and replied, “No need.”
He didn’t feel safe letting Zhuang Ai Yi stay with her, so he looked at Zhuang Mingxu and said, “You arrange their accommodation and what they should do next.”
He couldn’t just let them live off the group for free. They were not close to him, and Lu Weiyi wasn’t going to take care of them.
It was a heart-wrenching decision…
As soon as he said this, everyone in the room stared at Lu Weiyi in disbelief. But unfortunately, Lu Weiyi yawned again, his eyes filled with tears, and didn’t notice.
It was Zhuang Mingxu, however, who lowered his gaze to hide the swirling emotions in his eyes. He quietly asked, “Can I arrange things however I want?”
“Sure,” Lu Weiyi mumbled and returned to his room.
As soon as he left, the others quickly found various excuses to leave. In the end, only Ning Yuan and Wu Yue remained. Lin Yimu hesitated for a moment but then sat back down. Li Zhuang swayed slightly and, just as he reached the stairs, turned to look at Zhuang Mingxu, smiled slightly, and said nothing.
Zhuang Mingxu kept staring at Yun Lu, his gaze neutral and devoid of any emotion. But it still made Yun Lu feel a sense of danger. She instinctively moved behind Guan Tong, who then said, “Sir, if you’re dissatisfied with something, you can take it up with the one who brought us back, no need to take it out on us orphans and widows.”
“Aunt, you know…” Ning Yuan sneered, but was interrupted by Zhuang Mingxu before he could finish. He took a deep breath and said nothing more.
Guan Tong’s words seemed to touch a chord in Zhuang Mingxu’s heart. It was precisely because they were brought back by Lu Weiyi that he had reservations. This was the first time Lu Weiyi had brought a girl home so openly. Zhuang Mingxu was worried that if he handled it too lightly, it would be useless. On the other hand, if he handled it too harshly, it would ruin their relationship beyond repair.
Because he cared, he hesitated.
Zhuang Mingxu remained silent for a long time, then finally looked at Ning Yuan. “Send them to the Green Land Community, find them a safer room.”
Omg this is killing me. Please just talk to your husband and clear out the misunderstandings. Don’t just keep it to yourself???
