Chapter 65
Qin Yuxing had everything planned out, and he set the departure for tomorrow. However, figuring out how to bring the little lion along was still a challenge.
Originally, he hadn’t planned to leave so soon. His initial idea was to let the little lion stay at the Rose Nursery until it evolved into a mighty adult lion, then take it away. But now, he couldn’t wait any longer. If Teacher Bai didn’t even like the little lion, then running away was the best option!
Bai Nuosi took the little lion and Teng Snake to the children’s playground. The last time he brought the little black panther here, he had been bitten by the gray wolf, so he hadn’t returned for a while.
Now that he was staying in the East Dormitory, which was closer to the playground than the West Dormitory, and considering how the little lion enjoyed playing games and singing, with its lively and mischievous nature, he was certain it would love this place. So, he simply drove over with the cubs in the baby cart.
There were still plenty of fluffy cubs playing in the playground. Previously, Bai Nuosi worried that the little black panther might struggle to make friends, but when it came to the little lion, he had no such concerns.
Indeed, the moment the little lion saw the huge, colorful slides, it was utterly stunned!
This was a place for spirit beast cubs to play—it knew that much! After all, there were other cubs resting leisurely on the slides, and some were lounging on the swings.
The little lion’s eyes sparkled, and it immediately tried to jump out of the cart to dash over.
Thankfully, Bai Nuosi acted quickly. He stepped forward immediately, saying, “Xingxing, don’t move yet. Let me help you out.”
He opened the car door, first taking Teng Snake down, and then carefully lifting the little lion.
Teng Snake was also very interested in the playground. Last time, it didn’t get to play as much as it wanted. This time, it rushed straight to the swings. There were four in total, and one was unoccupied. It zipped over and occupied it quickly, as if afraid someone might take it.
The viewers in the livestream watched the two cubs:
[Not gonna lie, I didn’t think much of Teng Snake swinging before, but now that I know it’s Huo Ranchuan’s spirit beast…]
[Does Huo Ranchuan really like swinging that much? I never would have guessed. Wow…]
[See, people can hide their true feelings, but spirit beast cubs can’t. Maybe their spirit beasts show their true personalities!]
[This just shows you shouldn’t easily hand over newly awakened spirit beasts to untrustworthy people; meme face JPG.]
Teng Snake went straight for the swing, while the little lion was thrilled with the slides. There were tall ones, short ones, long ones, and each one needed to be tested. If another fluffy cub was lounging there, blocking the path, the little lion would bark at it until it moved. If the cub didn’t move, it would jump up and sit right on the other cub, making the blocked cub yelp.
Bai Nuosi was startled and hurried over, intending to apologize. But the fluffy cub that got sat on didn’t get angry; it even seemed intimidated by the little lion and ran off quickly.
Bai Nuosi: “…”
He sternly looked at the little lion, who crouched on the slide, looking guilty. It whimpered, “It was in the way.”
The other cub had blocked the slide and refused to move. The little lion had even called out before sitting, but the cub didn’t budge. It wasn’t its fault!
Bai Nuosi sighed. “But, Xingxing, why didn’t you speak up?”
The little lion only barked at the other cubs, without properly communicating. Could the other cubs even understand what it meant?
The little lion felt a bit guilty. Why didn’t it speak up? Of course, it was using its spirit power to intimidate those cubs.
Teacher Bai didn’t understand, but the little lion also didn’t know how to explain. So, it quietly crouched down, listening to Bai Nuosi’s gentle reprimands and nodding in agreement when he told it not to do this again in the future.
The little lion nodded with its head hung low. Only after Teacher Bai finished talking did it resume sliding down the slides. However, as it played, it suddenly realized—wait a minute, wasn’t it here to pursue freedom, to be carefree? Why was it that every time Teacher Bai looked at it sternly, it immediately became timid?
How annoying!
Teacher Bai must know some sort of magic!
The little lion grumbled, reflecting on itself while it continued sliding down the slides.
Teng Snake remained on the swing but kept an eye on the golden eagle back at the dormitory.
As Huo Ranchuan’s spirit beast, Teng Snake carried quite a bit of responsibility. It had to ensure the safety of the Rose Nursery, protect Teacher Bai, and monitor the golden eagle.
Since Huo Ranchuan was often absent, all the pressure fell on Teng Snake. Today was a rare occasion to play, so it lazily sprawled on the swing, basking in the sunlight while swaying its tail, enjoying the moment.
Other caretakers noticed Bai Nuosi with the two cubs and even saw him holding a rabbit. They were all impressed by him.
After all, other spirit beast cubs were usually managed with a one-on-two configuration—a caretaker and an assistant. The assistant served as the caretaker’s support.
When Bai Nuosi first started, his position was also that of an assistant. However, due to the situation with the little black panther, Supervisor Mons promoted him on the spot. Since the little black panther was timid, they didn’t assign an assistant at the time. Later on, for some reason, Director Mons never followed up.
But Bai Nuosi didn’t really need an assistant. Whether it was two cubs or even four, he believed he could manage just fine!
At that moment, a man in a blue caretaker uniform approached and greeted Bai Nuosi, “Hi, long time no see. Is your hand better?”
Bai Nuosi, cradling Little Nabi and keeping an eye on the little lion sliding down, turned at the voice. He immediately recognized the tall, young man as the caretaker of the gray wolf cub from last time.
He remembered that this man had approached and spoken to him when he first brought the little black panther here to play.
Bai Nuosi was surprised. He’d heard that after the attack incident, many caretakers had resigned, leaving the nursery. The gray wolf cub had been seriously injured after being attacked by the little black panther and Teng Snake, and Bai Nuosi had worried that it might cause trouble for this caretaker, like getting punished for not protecting it properly.
Bai Nuosi was pleasantly surprised. He smiled and replied, “Long time no see. My hand is fully healed now. It’s such a coincidence to see you here.”
The man extended his hand, “I didn’t get a proper introduction last time. I’m Yali, a caretaker in Area A.”
Bai Nuosi, holding Little Nabi with one arm, shook his hand. “I’m Bai Nuosi, from Area S.”
The two areas weren’t far apart, separated by a small orchard and garden. It took about ten minutes to drive there, but the Rose Nursery had strict rules; staff couldn’t move between areas without the director’s permission. This playground was the only public area where everyone could gather.
Yali was a handsome, young man. Last time, he had a beard, but now it was clean-shaven, making him look even more cheerful.
Yali looked at Little Nabi in Bai Nuosi’s arms, surprised. “Is this also a spirit beast cub?”
Bai Nuosi petted Little Nabi’s back, feeding it a piece of carrot. “No, it’s just a regular rabbit. It’s my pet.”
Yali’s expression grew complicated. “Last time, you had a snake and a panther. Now, the panther’s gone, and there’s a lion. You’re handling two cubs, and you still have time to care for a pet. You’re really amazing.”
Yali was genuinely impressed. He struggled with even one cub; it was exhausting.
Bai Nuosi blushed slightly, smiling modestly. “It’s not so bad. The cubs are all very well-behaved, so they don’t take much effort.”
The viewers in the livestream were speechless:
[Teacher Bai, you call this well-behaved and not troublesome? Shocking.jpg.]
[Teacher Bai, you’re too protective of them! Each one of them is a handful, and they’re all a challenge!]
[Hey, isn’t this the same caretaker from last time? The one who ignored his wolf cub and helped the injured Teacher Bai?]
[Teacher Bai’s only been here twice, and both times he’s met this guy. It’s fate!]
Bai Nuosi curiously looked at Yali. “How’s your cub…?”
Yali pointed to a little clouded leopard lounging on the carousel, sunbathing. “There, sunning itself on the spinner.”
Yali seemed chatty. “The cub I’m taking care of now is much easier than the gray wolf from last time. The leopard’s more docile, not as aggressive. I can finally sleep peacefully.”
He had nearly developed insomnia from that troublesome wolf.
“By the way,” Yali said, sounding excited, “this leopard is going home in a few days. I noticed you don’t have an assistant and are managing two cubs alone. How about I assist you?”
Yali was also from the Blackbird Galaxy. Although he and Bai Nuosi weren’t from the same planet, they were practically neighbors in this distant galaxy of beastmen.
Moreover, Yali was a beta, so working with Bai Nuosi wouldn’t cause any discomfort.
Ever since they first met, Yali had tried to find Bai Nuosi, but with restrictions on off-world accounts and the nursery’s strict rules, he couldn’t find Bai Nuosi’s contact information. Now that they had run into each other again, he was genuinely happy.
Bai Nuosi hesitated. “But isn’t an assistant a caretaker?”
Caretakers usually didn’t take assistant roles; Yali would be demoted.
Bai Nuosi didn’t have anything against Yali; in fact, he seemed detail-oriented and friendly. If Yali became his assistant, it might not be so bad?
Yali quickly said, “The pay isn’t that different. I don’t mind.”
As he spoke, he reached out to pet Little Nabi’s head, asking softly, “It’s so cute. Can I hold it?”
Bai Nuosi nodded, unaware that from an outsider’s perspective, the two of them looked quite close.
Bai Nuosi rarely spoke with anyone other than the cubs. Seeing him smiling and leaning in close with another man, even handing over Little Nabi, was a rare sight.
Teng Snake, lounging on the swing and dozing off, suddenly snapped its head up, eyes locked on the pair with an intense gaze!
So a new rival appears! Can’t help but feel that this rival might have some… Hidden motives (the wolf cub was bad so this one might be the one that shot HR?)
