Chapter 57
By the time Huo Ranchuan returned after a long negotiation with the old head of the Qin family, it was already late—almost past midnight. So, he carried the little lion directly back to his bedroom.
Teng Snake was still curled up on the windowsill, sleeping deeply. Its mental energy had recovered a lot over the past two days, and its wounds were almost healed, but it remained lethargic. The recent fight with the Golden Eagle had truly exhausted it.
After tossing the little lion into the room, Huo Ranchuan didn’t bother with it further and went to check on the Golden Eagle instead.
He was still getting used to the Golden Eagle being this quiet.
When he opened the door, he saw the Golden Eagle’s cage pushed tightly against the windowsill. The Golden Eagle was lying there, staring intently at the small potted plants on the sill.
Huo Ranchuan raised an eyebrow. “Where did the little potted plants come from?”
The Golden Eagle watched him warily, then immediately spread its wings to shield the plants, looking like a protective mother hen.
Huo Ranchuan paused for a moment, speechless. “Did Teacher Bai bring them in? Don’t worry, I won’t touch them.”
“However,” he added, his tone turning cold with a hint of a chilly smile, “if you cause trouble again, that might not be the case.”
The Golden Eagle: “…”
The Golden Eagle didn’t realize it now had a weakness. All it knew was that this annoying Huo Ranchuan had better not touch its precious plants!
After leaving the Golden Eagle’s room, Huo Ranchuan went to take a shower, preparing for bed.
The little lion, staying in Huo Ranchuan’s room, was initially tense when faced with the coiled Teng Snake on the windowsill.
Who wouldn’t be afraid of Commander Huo’s spiritual entity, Teng Snake?
Though it was bold and unruly, it still feared those stronger than it.
However, after crouching nervously for several minutes, the little lion noticed that Teng Snake was sound asleep and hadn’t even glanced at it.
The little lion tentatively took a few steps, but Teng Snake remained unmoved.
Gradually, the little lion grew bolder, waddling its short, chubby legs and rolling body quietly towards the door. It took one step, glanced at Teng Snake, then another step, and looked again.
Finally, it confirmed that Teng Snake truly didn’t care about it!
This was the perfect opportunity—if it didn’t run now, when would it?
The little lion bolted.
It had dreamed of wandering far away for a long time.
Every passionate young soul, like Qin Yuxing, had a hot-blooded dream of adventure.
He imagined taking the most powerful spiritual entity, piloting the most expensive spaceship, and flying beyond star systems, crossing galaxies, becoming a legendary space pirate who robs from the rich and helps the poor, and earning a name across the universe!
At that time, he would be dressed in a black, flowing coat, wearing a silver mask, and donning tall leather boots. By his side would be his pride—a gigantic and mighty golden lion!
No one would know the handsome face beneath his mask; they would only be in awe of his tall, muscular physique, his vast mental energy. The moment his golden lion lifted its gaze, people would be so scared they’d wet their pants…
Bang! The mighty golden lion, destined to terrify all with just a look in the future, collided with Huo Ranchuan’s leg during its escape attempt. With an expressionless face, Huo Ranchuan picked it up and tossed it back into the bedroom.
The mighty lion: “…”
The mighty lion, dizzy from the collision, was thrown back without mercy, tumbling twice on the ground before smacking straight into the wall.
The mighty lion: “…”
Damn, this was a bit humiliating!
The little lion, fuming, got up from the floor and glared at Huo Ranchuan, who walked in wearing a bathrobe, baring its teeth. Thirty years the river flows east, thirty years west; don’t underestimate…
Huo Ranchuan stared at him. “Trying to escape?”
The little lion: “…”
Huo Ranchuan: “I suggest you drop that idea. Otherwise—”
Huo Ranchuan smirked coldly. “I’ll lock you up next door with the Golden Eagle as company.”
The little lion: “…”
The little lion flopped down on the spot, lying flat and closing its eyes, feigning sleep.
It’s fine; revenge can wait ten years. Huo Ranchuan will grow old one day!
Or maybe it wouldn’t even take that long—once it got to Teacher Bai’s place, it would be free!
A person destined for greatness has to endure hardships when they’re young. So what if it had to endure Huo Ranchuan’s scolding?
So what if it had to sleep on the floor?
No big deal!
Huo Ranchuan ignored the little lion. He figured Qin Yuxing had likely been pushed to his limits by the Qin family over the years—look, even his spiritual entity had gone mad.
Huo Ranchuan got into bed, turned off the lights, and went to sleep.
Huo Ranchuan’s room was lively, but Bai Nuosi’s room felt empty and quiet. After washing up early, he got into bed but found it hard to fall asleep.
He wasn’t used to sleeping without a cub by his side, and he deeply missed the little black panther, the panda cub, and the little black snake who had once kept him company.
At least he could find some solace in knowing that the little black snake was still next door and would return in a few days once it was healed.
At least the little black snake was raised by Director Huo, unlike the black panther and panda cub who were suddenly taken away by their families. It wouldn’t be whisked away unexpectedly.
Bai Nuosi turned on a small nightlight, played some soft music as he usually did, and hugged a fluffy little dinosaur plushie.
He pulled out his AI terminal and checked StarNet for a while, only to be stunned by the flooded messages.
He had over 999+ private messages!
Why were there so many messages?
After the interface lagged for a few seconds, he hesitantly opened one of the private messages.
[Ahhhh, my darling, I really like you so much! Ahhhh, here are my abs, darling, look—are you satisfied? Attached photo.JPG]
Bai Nuosi: “…”
Bai Nuosi stared blankly for a few seconds before his face turned bright red, and he quickly exited and closed the message.
What? Why was someone behaving so indecently?
He remembered that he had mentioned during his live stream that if anyone wanted his recipes, they could message him privately, but…
Why were people sending him photos of abs?
Bai Nuosi was genuinely shocked by these people. Flushing, he exited the chat and posted an update on StarNet:
Rose Nursery – S-Rank Caretaker Bai Nuosi: [I opened my private messages late at night and saw too many to respond to. I’m usually busy with work, so I’ve decided not to read private messages anymore. I’ll post videos and recipes for baby food separately in the future. Thank you, everyone. CatRolling.jpg.]
After posting the update, Bai Nuosi nervously logged off StarNet.
He wasn’t sure if his message would be well-received. Hopefully, the viewers wouldn’t be upset with him.
And what about those who had genuinely asked for his recipes? Would they be disappointed that he hadn’t replied?
Bai Nuosi agonized over this for a while until he eventually drifted off to sleep in the middle of the night.
But in the middle of the night, a sudden boom! startled him awake.
He sat up, realizing it was pouring rain outside, and lightning flashed, illuminating the sky.
Bai Nuosi was afraid of thunderstorms. Whenever he was alone and encountered stormy weather, he would feel frightened, needing to put on headphones and curl up under the blanket to feel safe.
But now, he had no time to worry about himself. He quickly got up to close the windows, shutting the doors on the balcony and in the room. He also brought the potted roses from the windowsill indoors.
Little Nabi was huddled in her small basket, trembling.
Bai Nuosi immediately picked her up, gently stroking her back to comfort her. “It’s okay, Little Nabi. It’s just thunder. Don’t be scared.”
The storm outside showed no sign of stopping, and the heavy rain seemed relentless. Bai Nuosi wasn’t sure if Huo Ranchuan had returned and remembered that the windows over there weren’t closed. He also recalled that he had placed five potted plants on the Golden Eagle’s windowsill just that afternoon.
Hugging Little Nabi, Bai Nuosi rushed out, heading to Huo Ranchuan’s room. He scanned his face to unlock the door, hurriedly turned on the living room lights, and ran to the Golden Eagle’s door. After knocking a few times and waiting for a couple of seconds, he opened the door and rushed inside.
The room was dark, and the thunder outside made it even more terrifying.
Bai Nuosi flicked on the lights and was immediately face-to-face with the Golden Eagle standing by the window.
The Golden Eagle was stretching one wing out of the cage to shield the windowsill. The rain from outside was splashing onto it, soaking its feathers, but the five potted plants it protected remained untouched.
Only a few leaves had caught the rain, looking glistening and cute.
The Golden Eagle hadn’t expected the little cutie to return; it stared at Bai Nuosi with a stunned expression, its beak hanging open comically.
Bai Nuosi hesitated. “Mr. Golden Eagle, why are you at the windowsill?”
Strange, wasn’t the Golden Eagle’s cage always placed in the middle of the room?
When did it get moved to the windowsill? Did Director Huo move it when he came home?
With the cage blocking the way, Bai Nuosi couldn’t reach the plants.
The Golden Eagle slowly closed its beak, blinked, and then glanced at the plants before looking back at the little one. It lifted the cage with both wings and slowly backed up. Under Bai Nuosi’s astonished gaze, it returned to the center of the room and, with a thud, set the cage down, sitting obediently inside.
Bai Nuosi: “…”
So, the Golden Eagle could lift such a heavy cage…
No wonder Director Huo said it was dangerous and worried about it escaping—its combat ability was indeed impressive.
As Bai Nuosi stood there in surprise, another bolt of lightning flashed outside, followed by a loud thunderclap.
He quickly ran over to close and lock the window, then moved the potted plants to the floor. With a sigh of relief, he said, “Luckily, the plants are okay. I just transplanted them today—what would I do if something happened to them?”
If the little black panther knew, it might scold him again.
The Golden Eagle sat obediently in its cage, watching the little cutie take care of the plants.
At first, it was simply drawn to the little one’s appearance and scent, but now it genuinely appreciated the little one. The little one truly cared for it. Although it could manage just fine without him, who could resist someone who genuinely cared?
After ensuring the plants were safe, Bai Nuosi, hearing the thunder outside, took out a large, thick towel and placed it inside the cage. “Your feathers are all wet. Use this to dry yourself. The thunder is loud tonight—how about I play some music for you?”
He brought out a small round speaker that played soft, soothing music suitable for sleep. The Golden Eagle was probably bored; having the speaker might be nice.
Bai Nuosi placed the towel, the speaker, and even a little yellow duck nightlight inside the cage.
What if the Golden Eagle was also afraid of the dark and thunder, just like him?
Adults are often embarrassed to admit their fears, and Bai Nuosi completely understood that. Whether the Golden Eagle needed it or not, he wanted to offer it. If the Golden Eagle didn’t like it, it could always push it aside.
After setting everything up, Bai Nuosi left the room, gently closing the door behind him, and went to the balcony to close the window.
Huo Ranchuan, shirtless, emerged from his bedroom just then. Seeing Bai Nuosi, he wasn’t surprised—he had known the moment Bai Nuosi entered.
Bai Nuosi was delighted to see Huo Ranchuan, and the fear of thunder vanished. “Director Huo, you’re back!”
Huo Ranchuan nodded. “Is Teacher Bai here to help close the windows?”
Bai Nuosi nodded with a smile, looking slightly embarrassed. “Yes, I didn’t know if you were back, so I’m sorry to intrude.”
With the storm still raging, Huo Ranchuan noticed that Bai Nuosi seemed uncomfortable with the thunder. He cautiously asked, “Teacher Bai, there’s a new movie released today, and I couldn’t find anyone to watch it with. Would you like to join me?”
Huo Ranchuan was always quick to act when he had a goal. His conversation with Chen Min had alerted him to a potential threat—Chen Min clearly liked Teacher Bai.
If Huo Ranchuan wanted to get close to Teacher Bai, he had to act now.
Bai Nuosi’s eyes lit up. He wasn’t keen on going back anyway; the thunder was really too loud, and he was afraid.
Watching a movie with Director Huo sounded nice. He couldn’t remember the last time he watched one, and by the time it ended, the thunder would surely be over.
Bai Nuosi felt a bit embarrassed. He didn’t dwell on why Huo Ranchuan suddenly invited him to watch a movie late at night, but he trusted the director’s character and believed he wouldn’t take advantage of him.
Bai Nuosi smiled and nodded. “Sure, what—”
Suddenly, something furry jumped out from behind Huo Ranchuan, catching Bai Nuosi’s attention. He stared in confusion. “Huh? Is that… a little lion?”
Bai Nuosi’s mouth opened slightly as he stared at the little lion.
Wait, since when did Director Huo have a little lion in his house?
How adorable!
Huo Ranchuan’s first time officially starting his pursuit of Bai Nuosi, but the lion cub had to ruin it all, lol. I imagine its main body, Qin Yuxing, won’t have an easy time when he officially joins the military, since Huo Ranchuan will definitely vent his frustrations on the one who ruined his good chances, lol.
Thanks for the chapter! 😀
