Chapter 47
At first, Bai Nuosi was a little suspicious, but this was Director Huo’s home. He didn’t want to say anything and certainly wouldn’t ask further.
So, he started taking out the food from the table and showing it to Huo Ranchuan: “This lollipop is specifically for digestion, Snake Baby loves it. You can have it before or after meals, but not before bed, since it might cause cavities. And this jelly can be paired with fruit… Oh, and this jam, it’s made from fresh fruits and can be used to make fruit tea or paired with bread. The babies love it. Director, you should try it too, it’s quite tasty.”
While Bai Nuosi was talking, Huo Ranchuan wasn’t really listening. He had only one thought in mind: Raising babies is so troublesome. Even feeding them has so many rules. I swear I’ll never have kids!
After Bai Nuosi finished, he took out Snake Baby’s bottle and formula, saying, “I forgot last time. I didn’t let you bring Snake Baby’s bottle. It must be feeling sad, right?”
Huo Ranchuan: “…”
Sad or not, he wasn’t sure. What he did know was that since Tengteng (the snake) came back, it hadn’t had any milk.
That was a special privilege only when staying with Teacher Xiao Bai.
Not just Snake Baby—even the little Black Leopard hadn’t had milk since leaving Teacher Xiao Bai’s care!
Huo Ranchuan rubbed his nose, feeling a little awkward, “Thank you, but you didn’t need to bring it. Once it finishes shedding in a few days, I’ll send it back to you.”
Before, Huo Ranchuan had hesitated, thinking about just taking Tengteng back for good. But after the recent attack, he decided it was safer to keep Tengteng by Teacher Xiao Bai’s side.
After all, both Teacher Xiao Bai and the S-level spirit beast cubs were too important for the Rose Garden.
Just as they were talking, the knocking sound came again, this time lasting longer than before. Bai Nuosi quietly looked at Huo Ranchuan, his suspicion growing.
Hmm, Director Huo does seem a bit roguish, and he does look fierce, but surely he wouldn’t do something illegal like keeping someone locked up at home, right?
The knocking sound paused for two seconds, then turned into pounding.
Bai Nuosi pressed his lips together, staring at Huo Ranchuan.
Huo Ranchuan: “…”
Seeing the doubt in Bai Nuosi’s eyes, Huo Ranchuan helplessly rubbed his forehead. Didn’t Sajinna say the Golden Eagle’s spirit energy was completely exhausted, and it had inhaled a lot of sedative? It shouldn’t wake up for a while.
Sajinna had estimated that the Golden Eagle would wake up around midnight, but it was only four or five in the afternoon now. There was still plenty of time.
In those few seconds, the pounding on the door turned into heavy banging!
Huo Ranchuan could already imagine the scene: the Golden Eagle waking up, trapped in the cage due to exhaustion, throwing a fit in its rage.
Huo Ranchuan sighed and said to Bai Nuosi, “Wait here for a moment.”
With that, he walked toward the tightly closed door.
Bai Nuosi followed behind him for a while but then turned around, spotting the little panda cub sitting obediently and shyly on the sofa, holding the deeply asleep Snake Baby tightly in its arms.
Bai Nuosi: “…”
Bai Nuosi looked at the panda cub in slight surprise and whispered, “Hey, Qiu Qiu, be gentle when holding Snake Baby. Its skin is too delicate.”
Caught in the act, the panda cub felt a bit embarrassed and quickly placed Snake Baby back on the little blanket beside it, offering an apologetic smile, “Qiu Qiu knows.”
Oh no, oh no, the monster’s about to break through the door! Qiu Qiu is scared!
The panda cub shifted uneasily, inching closer to the still-asleep Tengteng, almost sitting on its tail.
Bai Nuosi had no idea what was going on in the panda cub’s mind. Seeing that the little panda, who used to fight and even chase after Snake Baby, was now sitting so close to it, he felt quite relieved.
As expected, emotions grow through interaction. After just two days apart, the little panda was already missing Snake Baby so much. The bonds between cubs were so simple and pure.
Seeing the panda cub was fine, Bai Nuosi turned around and followed Huo Ranchuan for a few steps. He didn’t want to pry into the Director’s privacy, but the banging on the door was so loud he couldn’t help but be curious…
As soon as the little panda saw Teacher Xiao Bai turn away, it immediately scooted over to Tengteng, shaking its tail and whispering, “Wake up! The bird is awake!”
The panda was speaking in broken phrases, clearly anxious, scared, and nervous, but no matter how much it shook Tengteng’s tail, the snake continued to lie there, eyes closed, like a dead snake.
The panda cub was furious: “Come on, snake! Wake up!”
Just then, boom! There was a loud crash. Huo Ranchuan, who had just reached the door, quickly dodged to the side. The door was forced open from within and fell heavily to the ground with a thud. The thick wooden surface was already covered in cracks.
A large, black, square cage, taller than a person, was stuck in the doorway. Because the cage was bigger than the door, Huo Ranchuan had managed to get the cage into the room, but the Golden Eagle inside had no way of getting the cage out.
When the door fell down, the Golden Eagle, wrapped in bandages like a dumpling, met Huo Ranchuan’s murderous gaze.
The Golden Eagle remained calm. Its orange-red eyes showed no fear, only intense hostility and cold, predatory cruelty.
It slowly retracted its extended claws, alternately lifting its two golden talons to stretch them. Then, it changed direction and began furiously kicking at the wall.
Clearly, the moment it woke up, it had carried its cage to the door and kicked the door down with brute force. But after realizing that even with the door gone it still couldn’t escape, it decided to kick the wall instead.
Once it kicked down the wall next to the door, wouldn’t it be able to get out?
The Golden Eagle thought this through well, and its talons were indeed quite effective. It started making a loud bang bang bang noise again.
Huo Ranchuan glared at it darkly. “Do you believe I’ll chop off your claws and make spicy, boneless chicken feet out of them?”
The Golden Eagle: “…”
The Golden Eagle paused for a moment, glanced at Huo Ranchuan, rolled its eyes, and then continued kicking the wall.
Huo Ranchuan: “…”
This Golden Eagle had been disconnected from its host, Chen Min, for a long time. It wouldn’t return to Chen Min’s mental sea, so at this moment, it was an independent entity, completely devoid of human traits, driven purely by its animal instincts.
Even Chen Min had no idea where his spirit beast was or what it was doing.
Huo Ranchuan, concerned about Bai Nuosi and the little panda cub, was considering whether to knock out the Golden Eagle with a punch or inject it with a sedative when Bai Nuosi’s voice sounded from behind him.
In a small voice, Bai Nuosi asked, “Director Huo, what’s wrong with it?”
Bai Nuosi stared in shock at the nearly two-meter-tall, bandage-wrapped creature in the cage. It looked like a white ball, and he was a bit surprised.
“Is this… also a beastman?”
Judging by the eyes, mouth, and talons peeking out from the bandages, it seemed like an eagle?
Huo Ranchuan immediately extended his hand to protect Bai Nuosi, his eyes fixed on the Golden Eagle in the cage, warning it with his gaze. “As you can see, it’s a beastman in bird form. Its temper is pretty bad, so don’t get too close—it’s dangerous.”
Since Bai Nuosi had been in this place, he’d only seen beastman babies, with the exception of Mr. Black Panther. But Mr. Black Panther was gentle, with an exceptionally good personality.
Curious, Bai Nuosi peeked out from behind Huo Ranchuan, taking another look at the bird wrapped like a dumpling in the iron cage.
Just how bad was this bird’s temper to end up locked in an iron cage by Director Huo?
Bai Nuosi’s eyes were filled with shock and pity.
In his mind, only those who were mentally unstable would be forcibly locked in a cage and sent to a psychiatric hospital for treatment. Or worse, spend years, even decades, confined in a cage. It was pitiful.
What Bai Nuosi didn’t notice was that as soon as he spoke, the Golden Eagle stopped kicking the wall. It stood perfectly still in a one-legged stance, balancing its round body, with its orange-red eyes fixed firmly on Bai Nuosi.
This person—it hadn’t seen him before. He looked cute and smelled good. Seemed like he’d taste delicious?
The Golden Eagle tilted its head, staring straight at Bai Nuosi.
Huo Ranchuan’s expression immediately darkened. He pushed Bai Nuosi back, saying, “Move further back. It’s very dangerous.”
Bai Nuosi obediently stepped back several paces, but the Golden Eagle kept staring at him. In fact, because of Bai Nuosi’s retreat, the Golden Eagle stretched its neck long and even shot an irritated glare at Huo Ranchuan, as if blaming him for blocking its view of the cute little human.
Huo Ranchuan: “…”
Watching the Golden Eagle’s behavior, Huo Ranchuan suddenly thought of his friend Chen Min. Wasn’t Teacher Bai exactly the type Chen Min liked? Cute and well-behaved, fair-skinned, pretty, and slender.
Tsk.
Huo Ranchuan’s expression grew even more displeased. He extended his leg and kicked the cage. The cage, made of special metal, spun around with the force of his kick.
The Golden Eagle, standing on one leg and gazing at the cute little human, was caught off guard and fell flat on its face.
Golden Eagle: “???”
The Golden Eagle was furious. It sprang up from the ground and charged at Huo Ranchuan, letting out an enraged, high-pitched screech!
The sharp, ear-piercing sound terrified the little panda cub, who immediately grabbed Tengteng and scurried under the sofa, leaving only its round bottom sticking out.
Bai Nuosi was also startled, quickly covering his ears and backing away several more steps.
Huo Ranchuan, growing impatient, expressionlessly kicked the iron cage again.
With a loud clang, the cage spun around once more, and the Golden Eagle fell flat on its face again.
Golden Eagle: “…”
Hubby’s jelly?
I had entertained the thought that once the golden eagle was healed, perhaps its main body, Chen Min, could possibly be a love rival, but I didn’t expect it be such a strong love rival with Bai Nuosi perfectly matching his tastes, lol.
Thanks for the chapter! 😀
Lol I have a feeling that the eagle might become a cub soon pfffff XD
