Chapter 46
As Bai Nuosi slowly drove the baby car, he kept glancing at his smart device, waiting for Huo Ranchuan’s reply.
Meanwhile, the panda cub, holding a hawthorn-flavored lollipop in its paws, licked it and occasionally peeked at the screen in front of Teacher Bai.
After a while, Bai Nuosi hesitantly said, “Qiu Qiu, do you think Director Huo might be seriously injured and in the hospital?”
Thinking of the laser cannon that had exploded on Director Huo’s back yesterday, Bai Nuosi felt it was quite possible!
Although the beastmen here were very strong, Bai Nuosi wasn’t sure just how strong. If it had been him in that situation, he would probably be dead by now.
This thought made Bai Nuosi even more worried. If Director Huo were in the hospital, what would happen to the snake baby?
Come to think of it, Bai Nuosi didn’t know if Director Huo had any family. Was there anyone taking care of the snake baby?
Just as he was about to call Supervisor Mons, he suddenly received a message from Huo Ran Chuan!
Director Huo: [You can visit.]
Shortly after, Huo Ran Chuan sent his location.
Bai Nuosi checked the location and found that Director Huo lived in the dormitory area, though quite far from Bai Nuosi’s place. One was in the east zone, the other in the west, and it would take about half an hour to drive there.
The east zone mainly housed caregivers from other star systems and young spirit beasts, so there were more patrolling guards. The west zone was for local staff and the guards, a more remote area with no need for frequent patrols. Huo Ran Chuan’s residence was on the top floor of the first building there.
When Bai Nuosi arrived with the panda cub, he was surprised to find that he wasn’t stopped at the entrance to the west dormitories. The AI at the gate scanned him and immediately granted access.
Bai Nuosi was a bit surprised. It seemed Director Huo was quite considerate, knowing he was coming and setting the defense system in advance.
He parked the car in the garden outside the dormitory, then followed the address Huo Ranchuan provided, taking the elevator to the 19th floor.
The 19th floor had only four apartments, but three of them were unoccupied. Huo Ran Chuan’s mental power was unstable at times, and when his emotions fluctuated, people with lower levels of mental strength couldn’t tolerate being near him.
Huo Ranchuan lived in the first apartment. When Bai Nuosi knocked on the door, Huo Ranchuan had just returned home.
He had just taken a shower, and his back wound had been bandaged. Although he was wrapped in layers of bandages, it wasn’t noticeable as long as he dressed carefully.
His apartment was spacious, with a master bedroom and a side room. He had locked the golden eagle in the side room and now held the Teng Snake, also wrapped in bandages. He whispered to it, “When Teacher Bai arrives and asks about your bandages, I’ll tell him that after shedding your skin, your new skin is too delicate and prone to injury, so you’re wrapped in bandages for protection. We can’t let him find out about your wounds, understand?”
The Teng Snake nodded. Knowing that Teacher Bai was coming, it was very excited, spinning in circles with joy.
Though its wounds were deep and painful, and its mental power depleted, it still didn’t want to rest. It wanted to see Teacher Bai!
Seeing the Teng Snake cooperate so well, Huo Ran Chuan felt relieved.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Bai Nuosi stood at the door with the panda cub in his arms, holding a pile of snacks for the snake baby, pickled vegetables, freshly made jelly, and jams.
Aside from baby snacks, the pickles, jelly, and jams were also for Director Huo to enjoy.
Bai Nuosi wasn’t sure what to bring and felt embarrassed to show up empty-handed, so he packed up everything he had made and brought it over.
Huo Ranchuan gave the Teng Snake a warning glance before placing it on the sofa and going to open the door.
This was Bai Nuosi’s first time visiting a man’s home. As an omega, he rarely even visited friends of the same gender, let alone the opposite gender.
He felt a bit nervous, but he trusted Director Huo’s character. A man who could block a laser cannon with his body just to save his subordinates and a baby must be reliable!
And he had promised the snake baby that he would come to visit.
When the door opened, Bai Nuosi saw the tall man standing inside. He nervously bit his lip and said, “Director Huo, I’m sorry to intrude on you like this.”
Huo Ran Chuan wasn’t in uniform this time. He wore a dark blue T-shirt that revealed his muscular arms, and black casual pants that made his legs look even longer and sturdier.
Looking down at the somewhat anxious Teacher Bai, Huo Ranchuan said in a low voice, “You’re not intruding. Didn’t you ask me before coming?”
He stepped aside. “Teacher Bai, please come in.”
Bai Nuosi nodded and walked in with the panda cub in his arms.
Although he knew that people in the Beastman Star didn’t have pheromones, as soon as he entered Director Huo’s room, he felt an incredibly strong presence.
He couldn’t quite describe it, but it felt like he had entered a beast’s territory. There was also a faint, woody scent in the air. It wasn’t like perfume but very subtle.
This scent was something he had noticed on Director Huo before, but now that he was in his home, it seemed much more pronounced.
Bai Nuosi’s cheeks flushed slightly as he entered the room, unsure of what to do with his hands. He placed the panda cub on the sofa and set the items he brought on the table. Just as he was about to say something to ease his nerves, the white bundle on the sofa moved.
Bai Nuosi turned his head: “…”
The Teng Snake was wrapped entirely in white bandages, even its head was covered, leaving only its golden eyes and mouth visible.
The Teng Snake happily stuck out its tongue, revealing two sharp fangs. In its excitement, it suddenly lunged forward and pounced into Bai Nuosi’s arms!
Bai Nuosi: “…”
He was stunned for several seconds before finally reacting. He quickly picked up the snake baby in his arms, exclaiming in shock, “Baby? What happened to you? Why are you like this?”
Bai Nuosi’s voice trembled as he looked at the snake baby wrapped so tightly. Just how badly had it been injured?
So, Director Huo really did take the snake baby to battle, right?
Bai Nuosi carefully cradled the Teng Snake, looking it over from every angle. He even thought about putting it down, but seeing how heavily it was bandaged, he didn’t know where to start.
Huo Ranchuan’s expression was a bit awkward, and strangely, he even felt a little guilty. He walked over and explained in a low voice, “The snake baby just finished shedding its skin. Its protective scales haven’t grown back yet, and its skin is too fragile, so I wrapped it in bandages for protection. In a few days, when its scales harden, the bandages can be removed.”
The Teng Snake had a strong self-healing ability, and in a few days, when its mental power recovered, the wounds would heal naturally. By then, even if the bandages were removed, Teacher Bai wouldn’t notice anything.
Upon hearing Huo Ranchuan’s explanation, Bai Nuosi immediately relaxed. He had been truly frightened just now, but thankfully, it was just a false alarm.
Bai Nuosi gently held the snake baby in his arms and softly asked, “It’s only been two days—did you miss your teacher?”
The snake baby, exhausted, leaned against Teacher Bai’s shoulder. Upon hearing his words, it gently swayed its tail, then wrapped it tightly around Bai Nuosi’s waist.
It didn’t just miss him—it missed him terribly.
Only in Teacher Bai’s warm embrace could it rest peacefully.
In just those few moments, the Teng Snake had already closed its eyes, its tail drooping, and fell soundly asleep.
Huo Ranchuan: “…”
Bai Nuosi, however, wasn’t surprised at all. Babies needed a lot of sleep to grow, and it was normal for them to be tired after playing. Besides, it was nap time, and even the panda cub was yawning.
Bai Nuosi had no doubt about Huo Ranchuan’s words. He trusted everything Director Huo said.
Holding the sleeping snake baby, Bai Nuosi softly said to Huo Ranchuan, “You’ve had a tough couple of days, Director, managing the Rose Nursery and taking care of the snake baby.”
Looking at Bai Nuosi cradling the Teng Snake, Huo Ran Chuan’s gaze softened unconsciously. “How could it be tough? It’s you who’s had it hard, Teacher Bai. I thought you’d have a bit of a break without the snake baby around.”
Who would have thought that the attack would happen instead?
Huo Ran Chuan then noticed the bandage on Bai Nuosi’s arm, and his expression darkened instantly. “Teacher Bai, you’re injured?”
Bai Nuosi glanced at his arm and said shyly, “It’s just a scratch. The wound from when the wolf cub bit me tore a little, so the doctor re-bandaged it.”
The medicines in the Beastman Star system were highly effective. The bite from the wolf cub had been deep, but it healed in just two days.
Even though it had torn again, it only hurt a little and didn’t interfere with daily life. Bai Nuosi figured it would be fully healed in another two days.
Huo Ranchuan didn’t see it that way. To them, Teacher Bai was not only gentle and patient, but also a fragile Omega who needed to be protected. Although Bai Nuosi always prioritized the babies, even risking injury for them more than once, Huo Ran Chuan regretted bringing the Teng Snake back. In the future, the snake baby should stay with Teacher Bai.
Huo Ranchuan knelt in front of Bai Nuosi and said, “Let me take a look at your wound.”
Bai Nuosi felt embarrassed. “No need, Director Huo. Compared to yours, my injury is nothing. How’s the wound on your back? I thought you would be in the hospital…”
The doctor had indeed suggested that Huo Ranchuan be hospitalized, but the golden eagle couldn’t stay in a hospital. It hated the place, and if it woke up and got agitated, it could go berserk again.
Huo Ranchuan: “My back is fine.”
Bai Nuosi looked at his back, but Huo Ran Chuan was wearing clothes that covered him completely, so Bai Nuosi couldn’t see anything and didn’t ask further.
He gently laid the sleeping Teng Snake on the sofa and covered it with a small blanket before turning to check on the panda cub.
Since arriving here, the panda cub had been unusually quiet and well-behaved, almost as if it was afraid of Director Huo.
Bai Nuosi quietly asked it, “Qiu Qiu? Are you scared?”
The panda cub twitched its ears, sneaked a glance at Huo Ranchuan, and shook its head slightly. “Qiu Qiu, not scared.”
Bai Nuosi observed the cub carefully, but it didn’t look like it wasn’t scared…
Still, it was normal to be frightened. After all, Director Huo’s appearance was a bit intimidating, and his aura was quite strong. As a fellow beastman, the panda cub might feel it even more intensely.
But in fact, that wasn’t the real reason.
The panda cub kept sneaking glances at the closed door of the side room.
It seemed like there was a terrifying monster inside, and that monster… was about to wake up!
The Teng Snake had been suppressing its mental power, but the golden eagle wasn’t doing the same.
The panda cub sensed the golden eagle’s presence and was so nervous it began picking at its belly.
It sat stiffly on the sofa, and whenever Bai Nuosi wasn’t looking, it would quietly scoot closer to the Teng Snake.
It would shuffle a little, stop to check if Teacher Bai was watching, then shuffle a little more.
Yesterday, Snake Baby defeated the giant Golden Eagle monster, so from now on, Qiu Qiu will have to hold onto Snake Baby’s thigh!
Bai Nuosi stood up, walked to the table, and said to Huo Ranchuan, “Oh right, Director, I brought some homemade food, and snacks for Snake Baby…”
Knock knock knock.
Bai Nuosi’s voice paused. He turned his head and looked hesitantly at Huo Ranchuan.
Huo Ranchuan: “…”
Bai Nuosi turned and looked towards the source of the sound, coming from the direction of the side room. Hesitantly, he asked, “Director, just now…”
Huo Ranchuan cleared his throat, “It must be a sound from the neighboring room, right?”
Bai Nuosi was silent for two seconds, feeling something wasn’t quite right. The dormitories here were supposed to be super soundproof.
I wonder how Huo Ranchuan plans to explain injured golden eagle that’s caged up in his side room without seeming like a cruel person, lol.
Thanks for the chapter! 😀
PAHAHAHA poor HR! He’s gonna gain a real bad reputation in our teacher bai’s eyes!!!
Also… Is it only me or every few chapters the author decides to remind us “he’s a fragile omega”? Like I get it but please stop shoving it on my face when I just want to see my wife (teacher Bai) as a sweet caring person! More than an omega indeed!
