Chapter 27
The next morning, when Bai Nuosi woke up, he found both cubs nestled beside him.
He had been so tired the night before that he slept deeply, but in his hazy memory, it seemed that the little black leopard had crawled over from the other bed in the middle of the night.
Then, the little black snake had followed shortly after.
Both cubs were snuggled on Bai Nuosi’s right side, and for once, they didn’t fight over who got to be closer to Teacher Bai.
The little black leopard was quietly lying in Bai Nuosi’s arms, while the black snake was coiled near the head of the bed. When Bai Nuosi got up, he felt the black leopard hugging his right arm. Smiling, he used his left hand to gently ruffle the leopard’s head and asked, “Why did you come over, little one?”
The little black leopard hadn’t slept all night. Its mood was likely influenced by its main form, Han Baiyi. It was worried about Bai Nuosi’s injured arm and perhaps also sensing that something significant was about to happen today.
The black leopard lay in Bai Nuosi’s arms with a sad expression, gazing at him with reliance.
Ever since it had split off, Bai Nuosi had held the little black leopard in his arms. It had been many days now, though the leopard wasn’t great at counting and could only guess by looking at its paws that it hadn’t been too long.
The black snake remained coiled near the head of the bed, unusually quiet today. As a fellow spirit beast, it could sense the changes in the black leopard’s mood. It, too, looked over at Teacher Bai.
But Teacher Bai is not from the Beastman Star, so he has no spiritual power and cannot sense these things.
Bai Nuosi could keenly sense that Little Black Panther was feeling down, but he assumed it was still feeling guilty about his arm injury.
He picked up the two cubs, one in each hand, and walked towards the bathroom. “What’s the first thing we do after getting out of bed?”
Little Black Panther immediately opened its mouth and pointed to it with its paw, “Awoo~”
Bai Nuosi laughed and ruffled Little Black Panther’s head. “Yes, it’s time to brush our teeth!”
The cubs weren’t very good at brushing their teeth on his own, and even though he wanted to try, Bai Nuosi worried they wouldn’t do it properly. So, he placed them both on chairs, grabbed the toothbrush, and started with Little Black Panther. “Open wide~ We’re going to brush your teeth now!”
Little Black Panther obediently sat on the chair while Bai Nuosi carefully brushed its teeth with a small toothbrush and soft cloth. “Brush, brush, brush, brush up, brush down, brush left, brush right, three rounds back and forth, all done!”
Bai Nuosi wiped the foam from its mouth with a soft cloth, then brought over a cup of purified water and taught Little Black Panther how to rinse its mouth. “Take a sip, swish it around, and spit it out.”
Little Black Panther understood everything but pretended not to, following Bai Nuosi’s gentle instructions step by step.
After spitting out the water, it opened its mouth wide for Bai Nuosi to check its teeth.
Its small, white teeth were incredibly cute. Bai Nuosi pressed lightly on its sharp teeth and praised, “Good job, they’re really clean!”
Little Black Panther wagged its tail shyly and then watched as Bai Nuosi helped Little Black Snake brush its teeth.
Little Black Snake also opened its mouth, its tail swaying as Bai Nuosi brushed. “Hold the little toothbrush, baby opens wide, ah~”
Little Black Snake’s teeth were sharp, and Bai Nuosi wasn’t sure if they contained venom, so he brushed carefully, always feeling that the snake’s teeth were not to be taken lightly.
After brushing their teeth and wiping their faces, Bai Nuosi took the cubs out for breakfast.
Meanwhile, in the garden of the Han family’s ancestral home, Han Baiyi sat next to the head of the Han family, with the eldest Han son on the other side.
Both were dressed in the new black uniforms of military academy students, tall, young, and handsome—very eye-catching.
Han Baiyi’s recent development into an S-class was a significant event, not only for the Han family but for the entire central empire, as it meant the Han family now had its own S-class. This would give them greater influence in the military.
Many people came to flatter the Han family head, praising his sharp insight and excellent parenting.
Han Baiyi felt calm as he observed the guests.
The so-called press conference was actually more of a high-society banquet, where the Han family wanted to announce that they now had an S-class member.
Han Baiyi and the eldest Han son stood on stage as the family head boasted about the years of effort he had invested in training an S-class, how much care he had taken, and the resources he had secured.
The effort and resources were real, but they had all been used on the eldest son.
Han Baiyi felt utterly calm.
After today, he would be able to leave the Han family.
He would finally emerge from the dark cave he had been hiding in and experience the blue sky, white clouds, green trees, and fresh flowers. He could make new friends and meet more people.
He could also chase away the big bad wolf that had always terrified him and live a life no longer controlled by fear.
Thinking of all this, he felt a sense of lightness.
Perhaps that’s why everyone seeks freedom.
At that moment, Bai Nuosi, with the two cubs, had arrived at the orchard in the nursery. He started the live broadcast again, as he felt it was necessary to update the viewers about what had happened since the recent fight, especially his injury from the bite.
As soon as the livestream began, a flood of viewers poured in:
[Ahhh! Finally, Teacher Bai! How’s your arm? Is the injury serious?]
[That grey wolf is horrible! Now Teacher Bai is hurt, how will he take care of the cubs? So upsetting!]
[Why doesn’t the Rose Garden give Teacher Bai an assistant? His arm is hurt, and he doesn’t even get time off!]
[Maybe the cubs can’t be away from Teacher Bai? After all, they’re S-class cubs, and the Rose Garden must consider their feelings.]
Bai Nuosi was surprised to see so many comments in the livestream, with people asking about his arm injury and even calling him “wife” and “sweetheart.” He felt a bit shy, as it was the first time anyone had called him that, making him feel both curious and awkward.
Holding the cubs, he greeted the viewers in the livestream. “Hello everyone, I’m Teacher Bai from the Rose Nursery. Sorry for worrying you, but I’m fine. Look, my wound has already healed quite a bit.”
He raised his left arm to show the viewers the bandaged injury. “Since my arm is hurt, I won’t be leading any activities today. I’ve prepared some snacks and toys, and I’m taking the cubs to the orchard for a picnic and butterfly catching. Oh, and some of the fruits are ripe, so we’ll be picking fruit too.”
The viewers melted at his soft voice:
[Whatever Teacher Bai says goes.]
[I could just stay home all day as long as I’m with Teacher Bai!]
[Teacher Bai, I want to catch butterflies and eat fruit too! Pick me! Pick me! Furiously waves hand emoji]
Bai Nuosi quickly let the small live broadcast camera float away. The enthusiasm from the audience calling him “wife” was a bit overwhelming for him to handle.
The orchard was full of fruit trees, and it was the perfect time for harvesting. Some gardeners were already picking the fruit.
Bai Nuosi spread the picnic blanket on the green grass and sprayed insect repellent around it.
Since his arm was injured, today’s activity was just a picnic. Worried that the two cubs might get bored, he brought them butterfly-catching nets. Little Black Panther wasn’t very enthusiastic at first, but when it saw Teng Snake already running off with its net, it grabbed its own net and chased after it.
Who doesn’t want to be Teacher Bai’s favorite cub?
Little Black Panther wasn’t going to lose!
With both cubs running off, Bai Nuosi sat on the ground, watching them chase each other on the grass, his eyes following them closely, concerned that something might happen.
At that moment, Little Black Panther stopped a few meters away from a fruit tree, staring intently at the bright red fruit hanging above.
The fruit resembled a persimmon, with thin skin, soft flesh, and sweet juice—a highly popular fruit in the Beastman Star. The Rose Garden grew plenty of these for the cubs to enjoy.
A worker was picking fruit from the tree. After a while, he noticed Little Black Panther staring and smiled kindly, asking, “Do you want some fruit, Little Black Panther?”
Little Black Panther furrowed its brows and immediately turned to run away.
Bai Nuosi, noticing what was happening, quickly walked over. He crouched down and asked, “Do you want to eat that fruit, sweetie?”
Little Black Panther hesitated, standing there without nodding, but its gaze remained fixed on the fruit in the tree. It seemed like it did want some.
The livestream viewers couldn’t take it anymore:
[Sir, why are you asking? Just give it to him!]
[Now I get why Han Baiyi is usually so aloof and cold—he’s got major social anxiety!]
[Look at those adorable eyes! Give him the fruit! I’ll pay for it!]
The viewers began sending gifts and donations. Bai Nuosi’s account had recently leveled up, allowing them to finally send gifts for their favorite cubs and Teacher Bai.
While the amount of gifts in the livestream grew, Bai Nuosi remained fully focused on the cubs.
Meanwhile, Little Black Snake had already managed to get a basket of fruit from another worker. Holding the basket proudly in its mouth, it slithered back, placing it in front of Bai Nuosi.
Bai Nuosi asked Little Black Panther, “Your brother brought the fruit back. Do you want some?”
Little Black Panther shook its head and glared at Teng Snake, annoyed. How annoying! The snake was always faster than it was.
Teng Snake hissed triumphantly at Little Black Panther, then nudged the basket towards Bai Nuosi, signaling him to eat.
Bai Nuosi picked up a piece of fruit, but before he could take a bite, Little Black Panther took a deep breath, turned around, and with its short legs, sprinted towards the worker who had spoken to it earlier.
Bai Nuosi watched in astonishment as Little Black Panther ran off, frozen in place for a few seconds. Then, he felt deeply touched.
The cub that had initially rejected human contact and preferred hiding in the dark, dirty bushes was now bravely taking its first step!
It was willing to reach out and communicate with others!
Bai Nuosi’s nose tingled with emotion as he gently rubbed Little Black Snake’s head. In a soft voice, he said, “Look, your brother is so brave.”
Teng Snake didn’t feel much for his Black Panther brother, but seeing Teacher Bai’s reddened eyes, he affectionately nuzzled Bai Nuosi’s hand.
Little Black Panther ran up to the worker, who was busy placing the picked fruit into a basket. Noticing the cub approaching, the worker smiled warmly. “Do you want some?”
Little Black Panther stared cautiously at him, its paws nervously scratching the ground. When the worker moved closer, the cub couldn’t help but take a few steps back.
The worker chuckled, took a small basket, filled it with five or six pieces of fruit, and walked up to the cub. Squatting down, he held out the basket. Little Black Panther’s eyes locked onto the basket, its body crouching slightly as if preparing to pounce.
The worker asked, “If you want it, just nod.”
Little Black Panther hesitated for a few seconds, turning its head to glance at Bai Nuosi in the distance before looking back at the worker. Still crouching, it took two small steps back, its golden eyes fixed on the worker. Tentatively, it nodded.
Only then did the worker place the basket down and step back. “Goodbye, Little Black Panther. If you want more, just come find me.”
He glanced over at Bai Nuosi in the distance and thought, This Teacher Bai is something else. I remember when Little Black Panther first came to the garden, it was so wild that the whole staff had to search for it. Now, it’s actually coming to me for fruit.
Little Black Panther immediately grabbed the basket with its mouth and dashed back as if a big monster were chasing it.
It ran straight into Bai Nuosi’s arms, where he scooped it up and gave it a big kiss on the cheek, praising it, “So brave, so wonderful! You did such an amazing job, sweetheart!”
Blushing, Little Black Panther placed the basket in Bai Nuosi’s lap, then carefully took out a piece of fruit and held it up to Bai Nuosi’s mouth with its paws.
Its gaze urged him: Teacher Bai, hurry up and eat, this fruit is delicious!
The livestream exploded with comments:
[Oh my gosh, it ran over to get fruit, but not for itself?]
[It wanted to give it to Teacher Bai! Such a sweet and thoughtful cub!]
[I never would have guessed. Han Baiyi usually seems so cold, but deep down, he’s so warm and loving! Next time I see him, I’m definitely calling him hubby!]
Han Baiyi, in his spiritual sea, felt the emotions of Little Black Panther and smiled. Teacher Bai really liked the fruit. Little Black Panther’s effort had paid off.
At this moment, the head of the Han family pulled Han Baiyi close, bringing him onto the stage and giving him an encouraging look, signaling for him to begin speaking.
Han Baiyi hesitated for two seconds as he looked at the crowd below. Then, someone from the audience asked, “Han Baiyi, we’ve heard that the Rose Nursery is using your spiritual body for research and that they even falsified your medical reports to justify locking you up in the research institute. It’s said they accused the Han family of using AI to simulate spiritual power combat to force the family to cut ties with you. Is that true?”
As soon as one person asked, many others chimed in. Some were questioning the Rose Nursery, others the authenticity of the medical reports, and there were even those accusing Bai Nuosi’s livestream of being nothing more than a performance.
“How could there be such a perfect caregiver? It’s all just a show created by the Rose Nursery to deceive the public and cover up their crimes. They even brought in an alien, thinking we wouldn’t notice.”
“Exactly. How many people must be writing the scripts for those baby food tutorials and bedtime stories? It’s all too fake. Who could really do all that? The moment I saw it, I knew it was staged.”
“I just watched the livestream. Teacher Bai even teared up when Little Black Panther gave him a piece of fruit. It’s so staged, it’s ridiculous! Who wrote that script? Could it be any more absurd?”
…
Many of the people speaking were either members of the Han family, business partners, or those reliant on the Han family. Even though some of them genuinely liked Teacher Bai and knew he was excellent, no one dared speak up for the Rose Nursery or for Teacher Bai in such a setting.
Standing on the stage, Han Baiyi’s sharp features hardened as a cold expression settled on his face. His powerful S-level spiritual energy suddenly filled the hall, and everyone present felt the overwhelming pressure of his spiritual power.
Even the Han family patriarch and his son were not spared.
With cold eyes, Han Baiyi stared down at the crowd, enunciating every word: “There is no script.”
His fists clenched, veins bulging: “Just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean others can’t. Teacher Bai is the best caregiver. You’re not worthy to discuss him.”
Under the crushing pressure of S-level spiritual power, the Han family head, for the first time, realized that the wolfhound he had raised had fully matured—and this wolfhound could easily turn on the Han family!
They could no longer put a leash on this grown wolf.
The Han family head’s forehead was drenched in cold sweat, his hands trembling slightly under the pressure of the spiritual energy. “Han Baiyi!” he growled through gritted teeth. “What are you doing? Withdraw your spiritual power and step down!”
Han Baiyi didn’t turn around. He stood tall at the front of the stage, ignoring the family head’s command. Instead, he focused on the man who had first questioned him and answered the man’s inquiry: “The Rose Nursery hasn’t conducted any illegal research. The cubs inside are well taken care of, with complete living facilities and a full defense system. Most importantly, the nursery has the best caregivers in the world. They prepare food for the cubs, lead them in activities, teach them songs and dances, and tell them bedtime stories.”
Han Baiyi glared at the crowd, using his spiritual power to silence them, forcing them to listen: “Caregivers at the Rose Nursery act as the cubs’ parents, teachers, and caretakers. They don’t need a script. Those who haven’t experienced this life couldn’t possibly write such a detailed and loving script.”
Finally, Han Baiyi addressed the question of his medical report: “The medical report wasn’t falsified. It’s all true. From a young age, I was punished nearly every few days by the family head. The punishment involved being locked in a dark room, forced to fight against virtual AI spiritual bodies. The AI would attack my spiritual sea with electric currents. I thought this was a standard part of everyone’s training.”
Han Baiyi paused, his expression pained as if recalling a difficult past: “I didn’t know that this type of punishment was banned by the Empire. No one ever told me.”
He had always hated that form of training, but as a child, he didn’t know how to refuse. He placed all his trust in his adoptive father, believing in him completely.
But now, someone had told him that when no one loved him, he could learn to love himself.
When he felt that something was wrong, he didn’t have to place the decision in someone else’s hands. He could choose to stop it himself.
He needed to find his own shelter from the storm, rather than expecting others to carry him.
Chaos erupted at the Han family banquet.
Han Baiyi publicly exposed his abusive past at the hands of the Han family, revealing the mistreatment he had endured. The Han family members didn’t want to let Han Baiyi leave, mobilizing many people in an attempt to detain him while he was still speaking.
However, Han Baiyi didn’t linger. Sensing the turmoil in his spiritual sea, he quickly decided to escape the hotel where the banquet was being held.
Huo Ranchuan’s adjutant had already been waiting outside with a team.
As soon as he saw Han Baiyi, the adjutant immediately sent people to meet him. Opening his communicator, he sent a message to Huo Ranchuan: [General! You were right! Han Baiyi’s spiritual power is unstable.]
At that moment, Huo Ranchuan was in a meeting hall with the crown prince, watching a video of the Han family banquet circulating online. The crown prince frowned and shook his head. “I can’t believe the stubborn old Han family would do such a thing to their adopted son.”
AI-based virtual spiritual combat was extremely dangerous because human spiritual power is controllable, but AI spiritual power is not. Even though you can set the level of spiritual power in AI, the intensity is hard to measure.
For instance, even between two A-levels or two S-levels, the difference in power can be enormous. The levels set by AI aren’t entirely accurate, and AI doesn’t experience fatigue or letdowns like humans do.
One wrong move, and the trainee’s spiritual sea could be severely damaged—possibly beyond repair.
Taking such a huge risk to train an adopted son clearly shows that the Han family was desperate to create their own S-level powerhouse. They had gone mad with this obsession.
If they ruined one adopted son, they could always find a replacement, but if they successfully trained an S-level individual, the rewards would be immeasurable.
Huo Ranchuan casually scrolled through the little video feed on his device, watching Teacher Bai’s livestream as if this situation was all too familiar. “It’s not exactly unheard of,” he remarked, his tone indifferent.
He had become numb to it all.
The Crown Prince spoke again: “By the way, with Han Baiyi’s spiritual sea becoming unstable, does that mean Little Black Panther is about to evolve?”
Huo Ranchuan paused, instinctively glancing at the livestream where Teacher Bai was sitting, cuddling the two cubs while they ate fruit. His expression became hesitant.
If Little Black Panther was about to evolve, it could be a one-time event or could happen two or three times. But without exception, every evolution of a spiritual body is accompanied by a rapid increase in size and a surge in spiritual power.
Little Black Panther needed to be moved away from Teacher Bai immediately—it couldn’t stay near him any longer.
I’m so glad for Han Baiyi finally revealing the truth about the abusive life he lived under the Han family. I wonder if his sudden evolution will be different from others’ development because of the care and love he received from Bai Nuosi. Hopefully it’ll show the positive effects of the nursery to the public.
Thanks for the chapter! 😀
