Chapter 24
Although the Rose Nursery had just opened, it already had over a hundred young spiritual entities, with more joining every day.
After all, the thousand new military cadets were all around the same age, and most of them had recently manifested their spiritual entities. Most of the entities were rated A or B grade, with Han Baiyi being the only S-grade entity.
This made Bai Nuosi feel that the S-grade area was too empty, and he wanted to take the cubs somewhere more lively.
The central playground in the nursery was already bustling with beast cubs playing.
After parking the vehicle, Bai Nuosi set the two cubs on the ground, telling them, “Go ahead and play, little ones.”
“Huh?”
After walking a few steps, Bai Nuosi noticed that while the playground was full of cubs, the central play area—the one with slides, swings, and see-saws—was completely empty.
He quickly stopped the cubs: “Wait a minute, babies.”
Holding the two cubs in his arms, Bai Nuosi walked into the playground. His arrival immediately put the lazy spiritual entities, who had been basking in the sun, on alert.
A dozen or so entities scattered around the area suddenly raised their heads, eyeing the little black panther and the black snake in Bai Nuosi’s arms with both curiosity and caution.
Being rare S-grade entities, they naturally garnered attention. In the Beastman Star System, strength was highly revered, and the other entities looked at the black panther and snake with mixed emotions.
The dozen or so caregivers who had brought their cubs weren’t familiar with Bai Nuosi, but they were curious as to why their own cubs weren’t interested in the playground equipment. Some of the caregivers had already left with their babies.
Bai Nuosi, seeing no signs of equipment malfunction and noticing no repair notices from the nursery, approached one of the caregivers and politely asked, “Hello, is there some issue with the playground equipment?”
Otherwise, why would all these cubs choose to lie on the ground instead of playing on the slide? It didn’t make sense!
The livestream viewers:
[…]
[Teacher Bai, it’s not because there’s a malfunction—they just don’t want to lose face by playing.]
[Exactly, not every spiritual entity is as shameless as Han Baiyi.]
[I can’t believe how many spiritual entities there already are in the Rose Nursery! Seeing them lazing around in the sun makes my own spiritual entity want to cry with envy.]
…
The caregiver Bai Nuosi spoke to looked at him a bit longer, seemingly curious that he was carrying two cubs.
“There’s no malfunction,” the caregiver shrugged. “It’s just that the cubs don’t like these play areas. Maybe you could take yours to the orchard for a walk; they seem to enjoy picking fruit.”
Bai Nuosi nodded. “I see. Well, babies, would you like to go on the slide?”
He glanced down at the two cubs in his arms.
The little black panther tilted its head, eyes gleaming as it gazed at the orange slide in the distance.
Teng Snake, meanwhile, looked at the nearby swings, its tail wagging excitedly.
Bai Nuosi put the cubs on the ground and encouraged them, “If you want to play, go ahead! Teacher Bai will watch over you.”
The two cubs were hesitant, standing on the ground while being stared at by a dozen other spiritual entities nearby.
But with Teacher Bai standing behind them, fists clenched playfully by his cheeks, he made an adorably encouraging gesture, waving his fists and saying, “Go, little ones, you can do it!”
The two cubs: “…”
As long as they weren’t being asked to use the bathroom, everything was fine.
Teng Snake nudged the little black panther with its tail. Caught off guard, the black panther cub’s round body lost balance and rolled forward a couple of times, stopping right in front of the slide.
The little black panther: “…”
Although the black panther had only recently manifested, it could sense its master’s emotions.
Its owner seemed quite happy at the sight of the slide, didn’t he?
So, the little black panther made its way to the small steps and jumped up one by one. It quickly reached the slide nearest to Bai Nuosi, sat down with its four paws tucked nervously under its belly, and then, with a push of its tail, it rolled down the slide in a flash…
The surrounding spiritual entities: “…”
Wait, it actually rolled down? Doesn’t it feel embarrassed?
Bai Nuosi cheered loudly, “Wow! Good job, little one! That was amazing! Come, slide down again for Teacher!”
The surrounding spiritual entities: “…”
This caregiver must have poor eyesight—didn’t he see the round little black panther rolling down the slide, with its tail almost in knots?
Because Teacher Bai’s praise was so sincere, the little black panther started to believe that its rolling down the slide was some great achievement! None of the other spiritual entities were sliding, after all, and they all seemed to be watching with awe.
Clearly, it was the best!
Teng Snake watched, growing envious, but the slide didn’t appeal to it as much as the swing did. So, after a brief moment of hesitation, it decisively climbed onto a nearby swing. The seat was a small round bowl, like a big disk. The little black snake curled into it, then used its tail to push itself on the swing.
Ah, not bad at all! This thing really was meant for adults.
Playing on a swing was so much more sophisticated than what children did.
Teng Snake swung back and forth, thoroughly enjoying itself.
The surrounding spiritual entities were stunned.
Were the brains of these S-grade spiritual entities wired differently from the others?
Why did they all seem a bit… silly, and goofy?
Just then, the caregiver who Bai Nuosi had spoken to earlier looked on enviously and said, “Your cubs are really obedient. They seem to like you a lot.”
Since the other caregiver had mentioned it, Bai Nuosi followed up, asking, “Are the babies you’re taking care of not so well-behaved?”
The other caregiver’s expression darkened a little. “It’s… complicated. But look, that little gray wolf seems to really like your black panther.”
Bai Nuosi turned to see, and sure enough, a gray wolf cub had climbed up the slide and was now running over, stopping to crouch beside the little black panther.
What surprised Bai Nuosi even more was that, despite the black panther usually rejecting interaction with others, it didn’t shy away this time and even snuggled closer to the gray wolf, as if it liked the wolf too.
Bai Nuosi was pleasantly surprised. Could this mean the black panther had made a friend?
However, he frowned. The black panther had always been reluctant to socialize with others, so this sudden change in behavior was concerning. Based on his experience, something was likely wrong.
Feeling uneasy, he stood still for a while but eventually decided to walk over and check things out.
The little black panther, looking serious, stared at the gray wolf with a hint of disdain in its eyes.
The gray wolf was an A-grade spiritual entity, and its master was also a military school student, a follower of the eldest son of the Han family. The two had known each other since childhood and often bullied Han Baiyi over the years.
At that moment, sharing a connection with its master, the gray wolf spoke in a low voice to the black panther, “Han Baiyi, Han Shao asked me to deliver a message to you.”
Han Baiyi had been staying in the military school’s infirmary for some time, with General Huo Ran Chuan’s troops guarding the entrance, making it impossible for the Han family to approach.
The Han family had been trying for a long time to bring back the black panther spirit and Han Baiyi, stirring up public opinion online. However, despite the rumors spreading like wildfire and the public eagerly awaiting a response, Huo Ranchuan and the Rose Nursery remained silent, and the black panther spirit was still safe and sound in the nursery, leaving the Han family helpless.
Since they couldn’t reach Han Baiyi, they had no choice but to target the little black panther. After all, spiritual entity cubs in the Rose Nursery still had opportunities to meet one another.
As soon as Han Baiyi heard the gray wolf’s voice, his face darkened. Instantly syncing with the black panther, he stared coldly at the gray wolf in front of him.
The gray wolf had once joined in bullying Han Baiyi, but after Han Baiyi awakened his S-grade spiritual entity, it had started to regret its actions.
Now, facing the black panther’s grim gaze, the gray wolf felt a bit nervous, but years of tormenting Han Baiyi made it unwilling to accept the power imbalance.
Angrily, the gray wolf muttered, “I’m just delivering a message! Why are you staring at me like that?”
The black panther glanced at Bai Nuosi, who was hesitantly walking over, and then said in a low voice, “What’s the message? Spit it out and get lost.”
The gray wolf sneered, “The Han family master says you have three days to return. Han Corporation is holding a press conference about your black panther’s sudden illness in the livestream, which has caused an uproar. The Han family wants to provide an explanation.”
The black panther’s expression darkened. “The Rose Nursery will provide an explanation. What does it have to do with them?”
The gray wolf, exasperated, cursed under its breath, “Why do you think? Obviously, it’s to bring down this pathetic Rose Nursery! Who the hell wants to stay in this stupid place, being treated like an idiot every day? And those caregivers are all morons. Can you believe they serve milk to spiritual entities in the cafeteria every day? Are they out of their minds?”
The little black panther, who never thought the daily milk was enough, fell silent: “…”
With a stern face, the little black panther said, “I won’t let you talk about them like that.”
The milk is clearly delicious, and the caregivers are amazing!
The gray wolf: “…”
The gray wolf was speechless. “Anyway, the Han family wants you to return within three days and participate in the press conference. Tell the public that your black panther’s illness was caused by the Rose Nursery experimenting on your spirit, and that you’re a victim. The audience will believe it without any proof. That’s an order from the Han family master, and you’d better listen to him.”
Upon hearing that the order came from the Han family master, the black panther fell silent.
He had never defied the Han family master before.
Since childhood, a deep fear of the Han master had been ingrained in his bones. Just hearing the words “Han family master” or seeing that person, or even hearing his voice, would make his entire body tense, his heart race, and fear would rise from the depths of his soul.
The Han family master was probably certain that he wouldn’t disobey and would follow the Han family’s orders, which is why they had sent this message.
Since they had set a strict three-day deadline for the press conference, it showed that everything had already been arranged. They hadn’t even considered that he might refuse.
While the black panther was lost in thought, Bai Nuosi, worried that the socially anxious little black panther might get nervous, had already walked up to the slide.
Leaning over the edge of the slide, Bai Nuosi smiled up at the black panther and the gray wolf sitting there and said, “Did the little black panther make a new friend? What’s his name?”
The gray wolf glanced at Bai Nuosi and was instantly stunned by his appearance.
He looked back at his own caregiver, then at Bai Nuosi. Damn, were the caregivers for S-grade spirits always this good-looking?
It was infuriating! S-grade spirits really did get the best of everything in the empire. The gray wolf had to admit he was feeling envious!
The gray wolf stared at Bai Nuosi with an intense gaze that made him feel uncomfortable.
Han Baiyi knew all too well what Han Dashao and his cronies got up to in private.
Those noble kids had mediocre talent, but they caused plenty of trouble because of their wealthy and powerful families.
Someone like Bai Nuosi, an outsider with no fighting ability, no family backing, and outstanding looks, was an easy target for bullying.
With a stern face, the little black panther growled at the gray wolf, “Don’t look at him!”
Then, with a sharp movement, he slapped the gray wolf across the face with his tail!
The loud “slap” echoed clearly!
The gray wolf was knocked to the ground, stunned and bewildered. After a moment of shock came a surge of rage.
“Damn it!”
The gray wolf cursed, though he was still in cub form, and the look in his eyes was fierce, utterly at odds with his appearance.
Bai Nuosi froze for a second, sensing the gray wolf’s intent to hurt someone. He immediately reached out to pick up the little black panther.
Although the black panther was wrong to strike first, the gray wolf’s expression was too terrifying. He had gotten up, baring his teeth, and was now charging at the little black panther.
Han Baiyi had been bullied by this group for a long time and had never fought back.
Even now that he was S-grade, the gray wolf still saw him as weak. Being slapped out of nowhere, he was furious and immediately lashed out.
As the little black panther tried to dodge, a pair of arms suddenly wrapped around him, pulling him into a tight embrace!
A familiar scent wafted from behind, and the little black panther froze, just as the gray wolf lunged forward, jaws snapping at his neck.
The bite landed on Bai Nuosi’s arm instead.
With both arms protecting the little black panther, Bai Nuosi yelped in pain as the gray wolf clamped down. He instinctively shook his arm to dislodge the wolf, but the wolf’s grip was too strong.
The incident had happened so fast that the other caregivers were all stunned.
What the hell? Wasn’t it said during training that beast cubs were like human children—mischievous but never violent?
This bite was way too vicious.
The viewers in the livestream saw everything clearly:
[Oh no! Teacher Bai is hurt!]
[This is what happens when they hide information about spirit entities! Teacher Bai was protecting the cub, but he’s much more fragile than them!]
[That gray wolf is way too aggressive! The little black panther just hit him with its tail, he could’ve hit back, but why go straight for a bite? Was he trying to draw blood?]
[I recognize that gray wolf. He’s bullied Han Baiyi at school before. I can’t believe he’s acting the same way in Rose Nursery! He should be expelled from the military school!]
[@Huo Ranchuan, this is your fault! What if something happens to Teacher Bai?]
The viewers were growing increasingly anxious, but Huo Ranchuan was even more worried. He had been in the prince’s palace during a meeting when he suddenly stood up, bolted for the door, and even climbed over chairs and tables in his haste to leave.
Everyone else: “…”
The prince was startled by his sudden urgency.
The prince also stood up quickly, watching Huo Ranchuan vanish through the doors, and turned to ask his adjutant, “What’s going on with Ranchuan? What happened?”
The adjutant: “…”
The adjutant was just as confused—he had no idea!
*
Bai Nuosi was in a lot of pain.
He didn’t have time to wonder why a gray wolf cub could bite with such force, be so aggressive, and move so swiftly.
Every cub develops differently, and after all, these were beast cubs, with the genes of wild animals. They had sharp teeth and quick reflexes from an early age—it was part of their nature.
Bai Nuosi’s left hand was bitten, but his right hand still held the little black panther tightly, worried the cub might fall to the ground.
Han Baiyi was shocked by the sudden turn of events. When he saw the gray wolf biting Bai Nuosi’s hand, his eyes instantly reddened with fury. Just as he was about to retaliate, everyone noticed a blur as the black snake, who had been playing on the swing, shot out like an arrow, tightly coiling its tail around the gray wolf’s neck.
The gray wolf let out a loud scream, and Bai Nuosi’s hand was freed immediately.
Bai Nuosi, in intense pain, was pale as a sheet, his forehead drenched with cold sweat. After the gray wolf let go, Bai Nuosi stumbled and fell to the ground. The wound on his left arm was deep, and blood soaked through his white sleeve, staining his clothes and pants red.
He gently set the little black panther down, enduring the pain and speaking in a weak voice, “The baby’s fine now, don’t be scared…”
But as soon as the little black panther was placed on the ground, it dashed off like a gust of wind.
Bai Nuosi: “…”
He couldn’t understand how these two-year-old beast babies could move so fast!
The black snake continued to tighten its grip around the gray wolf’s neck, its golden vertical pupils filled with menace. The gray wolf, rolled to the ground, struggled with all four limbs while wailing in pain.
At that moment, the little black panther charged at the gray wolf and bit down hard on its hind leg!
The little black panther’s eyes were fierce: How dare you bite Teacher Bai! Today I’ll cripple your leg!
In the Rose Nursery, two S-grade spirit cubs were ganging up on an A-grade spirit. The surrounding spirit entities were so terrified by the power of the two S-grades that they cowered in fear, not daring to make a sound.
The caregivers, who had witnessed Bai Nuosi being bitten and now saw the brutal fight between the three cubs, were too scared to intervene!
All they could do was trigger the emergency and defense systems, calling for doctors and “security” to rush over and put an end to this violent fight as soon as possible.
Though Bai Nuosi was clutching his bleeding arm and in great pain, he was far more worried about the babies. Especially when he saw the little black snake coiled tightly around the gray wolf’s neck, while the little black panther viciously bit its hind leg!
The gray wolf’s mouth was wide open, as if it were about to suffocate!
Bai Nuosi’s heart nearly stopped from fear! Clutching his injured arm, he felt like he was about to pass out.
The two cubs, usually so well-behaved, were now on the verge of teaming up to kill the gray wolf!
At that moment, Bai Nuosi finally understood why Mons, the supervisor, had warned him on his first day not to let the cubs fight.
These beast cubs were ferocious when they fought.
One of the caregivers, who had spoken to Bai Nuosi earlier, rushed over and reached out to help him up. “Are you okay? Let me help you up.”
Bai Nuosi, pale and panicked, grabbed the caregiver’s hand, his voice trembling. “Go stop them! Your baby looks like it’s about to die…”
The gray wolf really did look like it couldn’t hold on much longer.
The caregiver, supporting Bai Nuosi, looked conflicted. “You can see how fierce they are; I don’t dare get close either.”
He was just here to earn money on the Beastman Star System; his job was only to take care of the cubs, not to risk his life.
If he had known the cubs would be this dangerous, he never would’ve taken this job!
The livestream viewers were frantic:
[Teacher Bai’s arm is hurt! Stop the bleeding! Omegas are fragile—what if it gets infected?]
[Even now, Teacher Bai is trying to stop the spirit cubs from fighting. They’ve got thick skin; they won’t die.]
[That gray wolf is so awful for biting the gentle Teacher Bai! Go cubs, give him a good beating!]
Bai Nuosi saw that none of the other caregivers intended to help. The three cubs were fighting so fiercely that it had frightened all the off-planet staff.
Bai Nuosi was desperate, but the pain in his arm was overwhelming. He had never been so seriously injured or lost so much blood.
Still, he didn’t regret it at all for protecting the cubs.
He knew that when the usually introverted and silent little black panther suddenly started interacting with others, something was bound to go wrong.
Luckily, he had gone over in time, and luckily, he had held the black panther.
Otherwise, the one injured now would have been the black panther, and judging by the position, the injury would likely have been to the neck.
If the little black panther’s neck had suffered such a deep wound, the consequences would’ve been unimaginable.
Mons, the supervisor, was rushing over with the medical team as quickly as possible, but Huo Ranchuan arrived even faster.
He reached the Rose Nursery just two minutes after Bai Nuosi had been injured.
Panting heavily, with sweat covering his forehead, it was clear he had come from quite a distance.
When he arrived, he didn’t care that Bai Nuosi’s livestream was still on, with billions of viewers watching. He strode toward Bai Nuosi, dressed in his formal military uniform, his eyes locked on Bai Nuosi’s face for a moment.
Bai Nuosi’s face was pale and bloodless, the usual rosy complexion now as white as paper. His forehead was drenched in cold sweat, and the gentle smile he always wore had faded, replaced by a look of panic and anxiety in his dark eyes. He was clearly terrified.
Huo Ranchuan frowned deeply. Blood was still streaming from Bai Nuosi’s arm, staining his white pants red. The sight was shocking to Huo Ranchuan.
He rushed over, pushed aside the caregiver helping Bai Nuosi, and without a word, pulled out disinfectant from his pocket. With a serious expression, he lifted Bai Nuosi’s injured arm and began disinfecting and cleaning the wound.
Bai Nuosi anxiously said, “Director, don’t worry about me, go break up the fight, they—”
Huo Ranchuan, his expression dark and voice hoarse, interrupted, “Stop talking.”
He was burning with frustration. How could Teacher Bai be so reckless? He knew it was dangerous but still rushed in.
So what if the little black panther got bitten?
Their spirit bodies have thick skin; a bite wouldn’t kill them. Teacher Bai cares too much about these cubs.
Huo Ranchuan was even angrier with himself. If he had known the Han family would cause trouble, he should have separated their spirit entities from the rest as soon as they arrived at the nursery.
He’d deal with those troublemakers later.
Bai Nuosi was startled into silence by Huo Ranchuan’s stern tone, and for a few seconds, he didn’t speak.
Huo Ranchuan gently supported Bai Nuosi’s arm. After disinfecting the wound, he applied a thick layer of clotting gel.
The medication he brought was military-grade and extremely effective. Bai Nuosi’s bleeding stopped instantly.
The gel also had a numbing effect, cooling the wound, and Bai Nuosi felt the pain ease significantly.
Bai Nuosi’s livestream was experiencing lag on the interstellar network due to the surge in viewership.
[Holy crap, did I see that right? General Huo rushed over just to treat Teacher Bai’s wound?]
[I can’t believe I’m seeing General Huo live! He’s even more handsome in person, and even more so while helping Teacher Bai!]
[I’m crying. Teacher Bai really is the best. Sob emoji.]
[Injured while saving the cubs. Teacher Bai is truly someone worth loving!]
In the short time since Bai Nuosi’s stream had started, two unexpected incidents had occurred.
First, the little black panther lost control, and now, Bai Nuosi had been injured by the gray wolf while protecting the panther.
The stream’s popularity skyrocketed, landing it on the homepage of the interstellar livestream network, attracting even more viewers.
Huo Ranchuan’s appearance immediately shot to the top of the trending topics.
Everyone was speculating about the relationship between the two.
[The last time I saw General Huo personally bandage someone’s wound, it was his childhood friend and teammate, Captain Chen Min.]
[So after Captain Chen’s spirit lost control, General Huo fell for Teacher Bai? Ugh! What a scumbag!]
[Stop spreading rumors! Huo and Chen are just friends, not lovers! Besides, I heard Captain Chen’s spirit entity is also being cared for at the Rose Nursery, though it’s unclear where.]
[What? The golden eagle went berserk, and Chen Min was injured in the process. He’s still in the recovery ward, so why is such a dangerous high-grade spirit being kept at a nursery?]
As the discussion in the livestream chat grew increasingly off-topic, the staff managing Bai Nuosi’s stream quickly posted an announcement, stating that due to Teacher Bai’s injury, the livestream was temporarily closed. Updates on Teacher Bai and the cubs would be provided via the Rose Nursery’s official account.
Though the stream had been closed, the speculations about Huo Ranchuan, Chen Min, and Bai Nuosi continued.
Some rumors even labeled Bai Nuosi as the “homewrecker” who had come between old friends.
The topic became so ridiculous that even a passing dog would curse at its absurdity.
Fortunately, Bai Nuosi had low account access and couldn’t see any of this.
The administrators who did see it forwarded the rumors to Huo Ranchuan, immediately banning the accounts spreading false information.
But Huo Ranchuan had no time to deal with that. After quickly treating Bai Nuosi’s arm, he picked him up and, with a grim expression, carried him toward his aircraft.
Bai Nuosi, confused, stammered, “Director, what are you doing?”
Huo Ranchuan, with a stern face, replied, “Taking you to the hospital.”
Bai Nuosi kept glancing back worriedly at the two cubs. “But, but what about them…”
Huo Ranchuan, looking even more helpless, said, “You’re seriously injured, and you’re still worried about them?”
Bai Nuosi frowned, “But they’re still babies, they need care.”
Huo Ranchuan sighed, placing Bai Nuosi into the aircraft and fastening his seatbelt. “Mons will take care of them. I’m taking you to the hospital first.”
Bai Nuosi turned his head and indeed saw that Mons had already arrived with his team on-site.
Mons, the only person remaining calm, quickly separated the three spirit entities.
The gray wolf had already passed out, its hind leg bleeding profusely with a deep wound that could potentially cause lasting damage.
The black snake was unharmed, while the little black panther, having bitten too fiercely, had blood smeared across its face, neck, and even its body.
Mons, thinking the little black panther was also injured, hurriedly told the doctor, “Quick, check on the little black panther first.”
The doctor, who had been about to treat the gray wolf, stood there speechless.
Silently, he abandoned the gray wolf to check on the panther.
Meanwhile, Mons muttered under his breath, “Han Baiyi, your spirit went berserk last time and scared Teacher Bai to tears. Now you’ve caused trouble again, and you’ll make him even more upset.”
Han Baiyi froze, staring at Mons. “You said Teacher Bai cried? He was scared?”
At the time, he had been in a state of confusion and hadn’t realized this.
Mons sighed, “Of course. He spent the whole day holding the little black panther, anxious and on edge… I’m warning you, General Huo values Teacher Bai highly. If you cause more trouble, I’ll have to transfer Teacher Bai to care for other spirit entities.”
Han Baiyi: “…”
Han Baiyi didn’t hear the rest of what Mons was saying.
His mind was filled with the story Bai Nuosi had once told him about the little peacock.
So, love means crying when the other person gets hurt.
So, is Teacher Bai actually in love with the little black leopard?
bai nuosi loves the little black panther, but not in a romantic way! don’t fall for it han baiyi
I really hope this experience will push Han Baiyi to not listen to the head of the Han family and fight for his own welfare and happiness.
Thanks for the chapter! 😀
