After Bystander A Bound to JJ Literature City – CH60

Chapter 60

Yu Zhi calmly looked into Fu Suxi’s dark, narrow eyes. With such limited horizons, what could he possibly refute?

Sure enough, a few seconds passed and Fu Suxi couldn’t say a single word.

When Yu Zhi felt the pressure of the hand pinching his face lessen, he pried the man’s fingers away and patted his shoulder. “The revolution has yet to succeed, comrade. We must still strive forward.”

Fu Suxi: “… …”

Seeing that he seemed to have forgotten about watching him use the toilet, Yu Zhi stepped sideways, walked right past him, and left the bathroom with head held high.

Fu Suxi slowly turned his head, his gaze lingering on that carefree silhouette. The ferocity between his brows faded bit by bit, and the restlessness and anger in his heart dissipated for no apparent reason. His unpredictable mental state stabilized slightly.

Fu Suxi stared at Yu Zhi for a moment. He couldn’t be sure if his mental shift was due to Yu Zhi’s very presence or because of those absurd words he had spoken.

With no way to distinguish at the moment, he looked away and opened the email Ji Yangqiu had sent.

Right before his eyes was a bold, enlarged title—”Meteorite Biotechnology Company.”

His eyes paused there, then he cast a deep glance at Yu Zhi again.

This time he hadn’t lied.

Yu Zhi hadn’t noticed his gaze, but the viewers in Fu Suxi’s livestream had, and several bullet comments flew by:

[User “Huang Girl”: Your temporary lover is honest and trustworthy, and has tipped you 50 universal coins.]
[User “Big Sock”: Reminds you that your temporary lover is noble and virtuous.]
[User “Pizza Heart”: Praises your temporary lover’s high moral character.]

Fu Suxi: “?”

Honest and trustworthy? Noble and virtuous? High moral character?

Yu Zhi had no idea that some viewers who’d been “educated” in his own stream had now turned around to “educate” Fu Suxi’s viewers.

He poured himself a glass of water and, after drinking, looked back. All he saw was Fu Suxi standing there like a wooden post, motionless.

He was looking at his phone, half his face swallowed by shadow, making his features look even sharper. He seemed to be reading something important.

Yu Zhi put down his glass and looked at the only large bed in the room. After a brief thought, he immediately climbed onto the bed to sleep. Taking the initiative was better. Whatever else was going on, it was none of his business—let the main character do the worrying.

He tugged the corner of the quilt beneath himself and yawned.

Seeing this, the livestream barrage displayed several similar comments:

[User “National Special-Grade Human Weapon” questions how you can sleep so soundly.]
[User “Cutest Girl in the World” hopes you cherish this first night sleeping together, and tips you 20 universal coins.]
[User “Scarecrow’s Straw” viciously curses you to die in your sleep.]
[User “Strongest King” warns you to watch out for the other party killing you when you’re vulnerable.]

Yu Zhi didn’t pay attention to these comments. Fu Suxi currently needed his cooperation to lure out the big fish—Meteorite Biotechnology—so he wasn’t likely to kill him now.

On the other hand, even though Fu Suxi was a bit twisted, he didn’t seem to have a habit of torturing people. He killed quickly, a bullet to the head, so he wouldn’t bother sneaking around to mess with him while he slept.

As random thoughts swirled in his mind, drowsiness hit him harder. Yu Zhi’s head drooped, and he fell asleep.

In the quiet room, a soft, steady breathing sound gradually emerged.

Fu Suxi paused his finger on the screen and looked over. He saw that half of Yu Zhi’s face was buried in the quilt, revealing only a clean, pretty brow and eyes.

His gaze lingered briefly before he walked over to the bed, looking down at Yu Zhi for a full minute.

Confirming that he was truly asleep, he reached out and grabbed his neck.

With just a bit of force, he could feel his fingertips sink into soft, delicate skin. Unlike last time, this was a normal living person’s sensation, no props involved.

Fu Suxi raised an eyebrow slightly. Right now, he could easily snap Yu Zhi’s neck.

[User “Scarecrow’s Straw” is overjoyed, urging you to kill him, and tips 500 universal coins.]
[User “Strongest King” excitedly urges you to snap his neck, and tips 10 universal coins.]
[User “Cutest Girl in the World” wonders if you’ll kill him, and tips 100 universal coins.]
[User “Smimaro” looks forward to witnessing his death, and tips 300 universal coins.]

The continuous “murder bullet comments” and increasing tips didn’t interest Fu Suxi. He just quietly watched Yu Zhi.

Yu Zhi, seemingly uncomfortable with the large hand on his neck, rolled over slowly, then reached up as if to scratch his neck. Accidentally tugging at the wound on his right hand, he winced, his breathing hitched, but he soon slipped back into deeper sleep.

He ended up sleeping again, not at all happily.

Fu Suxi retracted his gaze and also withdrew the hand on Yu Zhi’s neck.

Asleep, he looked like an ordinary college student, none of that shrewd cunning visible when he was awake.

He opened the attachment Ji Yangqiu had sent.

The attachment automatically downloaded, containing all the data from Meteorite Biotechnology over the years: research projects, branch offices, partner companies, executive lists—everything in detail.

Fu Suxi read through them from start to finish without skipping a word.

The documents contained no incriminating incidents or anything suspicious. According to the data, Meteorite Biotech was impeccably clean, paying taxes on time, cooperating with the government, even participating in various charitable activities.

Meteorite Biotechnology had been around for a full sixteen years, yet Ji Yangqiu couldn’t find any flaws.

They only managed to trace things back to Meteorite Biotechnology at all because of an outsider.

Fu Suxi laughed silently, his eyes dark and icy, his face so grim it looked like it could drip water.

Yu Zhi awoke shivering with cold.

The lower levels of the research building’s basement were particularly cold. The blanket covering him suddenly disappeared, and he fumbled around with his eyes closed, unable to find it. Reluctantly, he opened his eyes.

As soon as he did, he saw Fu Suxi, now dressed in a black tactical jacket, standing beside the bed, holding his blanket in hand.

“I’ll give you five minutes to wash up,” the man said coldly.

Yu Zhi wasn’t the type to be grumpy upon waking. Called out of sleep, he groggily got up to wash his face and rinse his mouth. After washing up, he became more awake and realized it was only three in the morning.

He couldn’t help asking Fu Suxi, “Where are you taking me?”

“Meteorite Biotechnology,” Fu Suxi replied.

Yu Zhi wasn’t surprised. Yesterday, Fu Suxi had both killed and put on a show precisely to draw the snake out of its hole. What piqued his curiosity was why this particular hour? Why not set out immediately after receiving the call from headquarters yesterday, or wait a few days to ensure Meteorite Biotechnology made a move?

He knew Fu Suxi wouldn’t explain, so Yu Zhi tactfully changed the question: “What about breakfast?”

In response, Fu Suxi tossed him a pack of compressed biscuits.

Yu Zhi took the biscuits, thought for a moment, and said to Fu Suxi, “One pack isn’t enough.”

Without a word, Fu Suxi tossed him two more packs of biscuits.

Yu Zhi stowed away the two packs and opened one. “I’ll need water too.”

Fu Suxi: “…”

It was the quiet dead of night, around three in the morning. The entire Special Operations Bureau was silent until two silhouettes—one tall, one short—appeared.

Following Fu Suxi out of the building, Yu Zhi looked at the empty entrance and realized that they were sneaking out with just the two of them.

He glanced at Fu Suxi, recalling how he mentioned over the phone that there was a traitor in the Bureau.

“Really not taking anyone else?” Yu Zhi pressed, unwilling to give up.

“Why would I?” Fu Suxi countered as he took an off-road vehicle out of his storage space.

“To protect my safety,” Yu Zhi answered without thinking.

Fu Suxi: “You won’t die.”

Yu Zhi wanted to pursue the matter further, but after Fu Suxi spoke, he got in the car and closed the door, leaving Yu Zhi to swallow his question.

The engine roared. The dark green off-road vehicle shot out of the Bureau’s gate, quickly disappearing into the night and dust.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Yu Zhi chewed the dry compressed biscuits. Suddenly, Fu Suxi spoke, “What happened to the detection device you snatched before?”

Yu Zhi’s eyelid twitched. He took a sip of water to swallow the biscuit, maintaining a calm facade. “What detection device?”

Fu Suxi cast a cold glance at him and didn’t ask further. He directly took a detection device from his storage space.

Yu Zhi subtly looked over and saw a familiar line of text on the device’s screen:

[Pollution Concentration: 1%]

They drove straight ahead, the detection device holding steady at 1%.

Only after passing through another city wall gate did Yu Zhi belatedly realize this was another exit from the safe zone.

Heavy-armed soldiers still stood on both sides of the city gate, but there were no testing sheds outside this gate. Clearly, this gate was only for exiting, not entering.

Yu Zhi blinked. The next second, he noticed that the detection device in Fu Suxi’s hand had changed:

[Pollution Concentration: 2%]

It rose by one percent.

Yu Zhi furrowed his brow slightly and looked out the window.

For several kilometers around the high walls lay ruins. The cold white moonlight shone on rubble overgrown with weeds, a scene of desolate ruin.

After passing this area of rubble, the horizon revealed towering concrete skyscr*pers standing silently in the darkness like giants overlooking them from afar.

Yu Zhi glanced at Fu Suxi’s detection device again: still 2%.

Thinking it over, he quietly took out his own detection device from [My Items] and stole a peek. It also showed 2%.

So it wasn’t a difference in devices.

On the journey to J City, the pollution concentration had remained at 1%. Now in S City, it changed to 2%. Was it because of Meteorite Biotechnology?

Yu Zhi lowered his gaze and put the detection device away before Fu Suxi noticed.

For the next half hour, the off-road vehicle wove between the towering buildings. The pollution concentration stayed at 2%, not changing.

Though the pollution level didn’t spike, Yu Zhi’s nerves were gradually tightening.

He wasn’t afraid of encountering people from Meteorite Biotechnology. If he met people, at least he had his “verbal” ability to save his life. What he feared was running into pollution creatures or sources created by Meteorite Biotechnology.

Yu Zhi hadn’t forgotten his constitution that attracted pollution entities.

Running into pollution entities would be troublesome. Running into them and having Fu Suxi discover that his ability didn’t work on them would be even more troublesome.

He couldn’t let this weakness be exposed to Fu Suxi.

Chewing on a biscuit, Yu Zhi silently prayed that they wouldn’t encounter pollution creatures. If they really did, he hoped Fu Suxi would deal with them before noticing anything strange about his ability.

The off-road vehicle passed through a dense cluster of skyscr*pers and entered a spacious industrial park. The park was located by the sea, and the air carried a faint scent of salty moisture.

Before long, the car’s headlights illuminated the company’s sign, placed on the lawn: Meteorite Biotechnology.
The metal lettering reflected a faint red glow, intertwining with the dim outline of the company building and creating an especially eerie atmosphere.

Yu Zhi followed Fu Suxi through the company’s main entrance. As soon as they stepped inside, rows of motion-sensor lights lit up one after another, as if welcoming their arrival.

After taking a few steps forward, Yu Zhi noticed a company map in the display case.

Although the Meteorite Biotechnology branch in S City was just a subsidiary, it covered a large area.

There were eight main buildings in total, arranged in such a way that four buildings formed one section and four formed another, creating a shape resembling the Chinese character “?.” Each building was numbered from Building 1 to Building 8.

Yu Zhi tilted his head to look at Fu Suxi, only to see him standing in front of the navigation panel, eyes half-lowered. He hadn’t brought his glasses this time, which made the contours of his profile appear even sharper.

After patiently waiting for half a minute and seeing that Fu Suxi didn’t speak, Yu Zhi asked, “Which building did Chen Tingting go to for her internship?”

Fu Suxi remained silent.

Although the documents Ji Yangqiu had given him described the projects and buildings of the Meteorite Biotechnology S City branch in detail, the high school internship program was managed by multiple departments, and each student was assigned differently. In other words, he didn’t know which building or department Chen Tingting had gone to.

Yu Zhi stared at his profile for two seconds and asked hesitantly, “Don’t tell me you… don’t know?”

Fu Suxi lifted his gaze and countered, “Do you know?”

Yu Zhi was about to say that if they couldn’t find out, how could he possibly know. But then he suddenly remembered that he actually had seen something about Chen Tingting’s internship department somewhere.

Where had he seen it?

Yu Zhi’s eyes widened slightly as he recalled: he’d seen it in [My Items]!

He thought for a moment and then said to Fu Suxi, “I can figure it out. What’s in it for me?”

Fu Suxi raised an eyebrow. “What do you want?”

Without hesitation, Yu Zhi said, “50,000 universal coins.”

Fu Suxi: “5,000.”

Yu Zhi: “30,000.”

Fu Suxi: “1,000.”

Yu Zhi’s smile was forced. “Do you still want to know or not?”

Fu Suxi said flatly, “Even if you don’t tell me, I can find out slowly on my own.”

Yu Zhi’s mouth twitched. True enough, and he had no one else to sell this information to except Fu Suxi. Fine, 1,000 it is.

“Alright, 1,000,” Yu Zhi said, spreading out his hand. “Give me Chen Tingting’s diary; I can only figure it out after seeing that.”

Fu Suxi raised his eyebrow. A green, floral-patterned notebook appeared out of thin air in his right palm.

Yu Zhi reached out to take it, but Fu Suxi dodged.

Fu Suxi slowly curled his lips into a familiar smirk. “50,000 universal coins.”

Yu Zhi: “…..”

He looked at the man, expressionless, with countless curses on the tip of his tongue.

Staying here longer did him no good. He needed both money and his life intact.

After a moment, Yu Zhi said irritably, “Fine, in the spirit of brotherhood, I’ll be merciful and help you for free.”

He took Chen Tingting’s diary and placed it into [My Items].

(Item: Chen Tingting’s Diary)

Function: Internship logbook from the Public Welfare Department of Meteorite Biotechnology’s S City branch.

Description: Chen Tingting, you’re really in the spotlight now. You must be careful with your words and actions. You have no idea how many eyes are watching you, waiting for you to slip up. I know you have a genuine, straightforward character as a pollution source, and I hope you’ll maintain that honesty, but you must also be strict with yourself, speak and act cautiously, set an example as a pollution source, and that’s how you’ll go further…

“Chen Tingting should have gone to the Public Welfare Department.”
